Why map is need for Siemens?

i really do not understan why siemens phone need map for flashing?
what is map accually ?
how is the siemens phone flashing work?

map is different from flashing
it is more secure, and more rapid - same thing like Nokia - where we use eeprom tools.

flashing in siemens is a pain in the a** for me::(
