Hello :)

I just had a friend visiting who owns a 6610i. I tried to setup his MMS correctly yet it just won't receive pictures - insteads it receives a SMS with a WAP link that allows to view the picture, but there is no option to save it to the phone. Yes, it IS set to "retrieve MMS" but for some reason it won't work.

I then tried to upload the pictures via IrDA. My IrDA adaptor has so far worked with just about any phone, so here - the 6610i was correctly detected and a connection established.

Yet sending just about anything - jpg images, gif images, jar files (game) and mid files (ringtones) - always the same result. The computer displayed a "Error in data transfer. The data is invalid."

Trying to send a picture directly from a 3650 to the 6610i via IR resulted in "Sending failed!" on the 3650.

Trying to send a picture from the 6610i to either source failed as well because there simply is no option "Send via Infrared".

Now, how is one supposed to get pictures OFF the 6610i except sending expensive MMS? (which by the way works perfectly). Also how to get stuff INTO it other than by WAP download..?? I tried a data cable as well, but both Oxygen II and MobiMB do not seem to support the 6610i. MobiMB did show it as an "active device Nokia MR39" or similar, yet no folders showed up. Oxygen had some data transfer going on but here too - no phone detected, sort of.

Not too important since i don't see this guy very often, yet it would be nice to know how others get this done.

Kind regards.....

use your computers infrared to transfer files. use nokia PC suite. you can download it a the nokia website for free.

i have a 6610i and i think it s*cks! cant transfer files phone to phone via infrared. only business card...

nokia PC suite does not have a games installer. u cant install on the games folder of your phone. however u can always put it in the applications folder and the game still works...

MMS and WAP messaging works fine with me.

btw, im subscribed to globe philippines. maybe ur subscriber is the problem...

Hello :)

Thanks for the reply :) However i DID try to use the computer's IrDA adaptor, which happens to work flawless with a Panasonic x66, a Nokia 7250, a Nokia 6260 and a Nokia 3650. With each of those phones i can transfer data (pictures etc) at least from the PC to the phone, and the Panasonic, Nokia 6260 and 3650 also allow to send stuff from the phone TO the PC.

The 6610i allowed neither.

And i lost belief in PC Suite long ago because i got several versions of it, all of which will work only with certain phone models and the last one, supposedly working with all models, does not work with my OS (XP Pro, SP2)!

I nrmally just "connect" the phone to the PC vbia IrDA, and simply "Send to a nearby computer" any file i wish to transfer. That worked so far with all but the 6610i.

BTW just few hours ago i met a friend in the city who owns some Sony-Ericsson phone. What a breeze to send pictures back and forth between the Sony-Ericsson and my Nokia 3650 - just have them "see" each other, hit send and there you go.

Kind regards.....

Hello again :)

Thank you for the hint :) Just yesterday i did recommend the 6.4 version to someone else here in the forum, yet myself don't use it either :)

I have had several versions of PC Suite and each of them had some quirks which made it basically unusable. So as for the version which came on the CD with the 6260 of my boyfriend - it's 6.3 which does install, sort of runs as well but when i try to start ANY of it's "applications" it will pop up a "runtime error" and close itself. According to Nokia that is because it does not support SP2, but does REQUIRE SP1! What a crap.

No, if a phone does not play well with standalone IrDA, then it is a phone that i won't get for myself and that i will not recomment to my friends. To be fair, so far the only one i know of doing that is the 6610i. Any other (ok ok tested just very few yet) just sends the file to the PC, which will pop up a window "xxxx device is sending file <filename>. Do you want to accept?" I confirm and the respective file lands in a folder on drive F: which i created for that purpose. The other way round, just activate IrDA on the respective phone, place it near my IrDA adaptor, having the computer say "New device in range: <phone>" and then select the file to be transferred, right click, send to -> nearby computer and there it goes.

About the MMS: The settings on the 6610i are 100% identical with those in the 7250, it looks like the menu has just been taken over. Only one aditional item: "Scale down image?" which was not in the 7250 (non "i" version). Since the 6610i in question was on AIS network same as my boyfriend's ex-7250, i just sort of "copied" the settings. And still, the phone refused to retrieve the actual MMS. I know that AIS will send a text message with a DOWNLOAD link if the phone is set to "Do NOT retrieve" and wapping to that download link opens only the actual picture, which can be saved by "options" -> "save picture to phone". Not so the 6610i - that option is not available. I guess that Nokia has yet again tightened the screws on "proprietory content" or what they call it, so if i want to send you a SMS, i have to register my picture that i just took with Nokia, get a OMA license and pay a few thousand dollars, THEN they send you an over-the-air command and your phone will be able to retrieve that one image. Sucks!

Kind regards.....
