Hey this is my first post here but i have read a lot of threads and the info here is excellent.
A quick question though i have a 6630 with a 2.5g sim card. I dont have a 3g one as i am not on bill nor do i want to go on it. This means every time i enter a 3g area the phone automatically switches from 2.5g to 3g and i lose coverage.
IS there anyway software i can download etc that will allo me to lock of this change ad just keep the phone in 2.5g mode. Any advice would be brilliant
Thanks

On my 6630 you can restrict the phone to just GSM via the settings.

Options/Tools/Settings/Network/Network Mode - the options are Dual mode or GSM, so select the latter.

This option was only added in newer firmware it might not be on his phone.

Yes, so I've picked up since my posting. My firmware is very recent (could be the latest) V3.45.111. I've heard it reported elsewhere that the setting was introduced with this version.

hang on, my mate had his phone unlocked to o2(uk) and he does not have that problem. im guessing this is due to fact o2 does not support 3G yet??? :-?

Not a massive problem on T-Mobile, just niggling at times. It's never dropped a call on me, it just switches to GSM when the 3G signal drops real low, but pehaps it would be best if it switched a little earlier as the voice quality is patchy when the 3G signal is low.

As far as I know 02 are in a similar position to T-Mobile - from what I've read elsewhere. Their 3G network is up and working, but like TM they don't have the 3G portal/downloads etc available yet, unlike Voda & orange.

Think you'll have to go to a Nokia Service Centre. There's a list of them on Nokia's UK website - most are Carphone Warehouse outlets.

When i went to scarborough the other week to get my 6600s firmware upgraded, they didn;t have the latets firmware claiming it was to be released later in the week. That was bs as it had been out months, so you'd better hope that your local service centre does a better job of keeping upto date with their flash files.
