Hello again :)

Who of you remembers my other RANT thread regarding a CERTAIN 6260? Well, here i got a sequel.

When i came across World Trade Center again last week (beginning last week to be specific), i decided to stop by the NCC again (the one which promised to call me but never did, then sent me to the head office just for fun because they also couldn't help and then same one that told me that a "extended 2 years warranty" means only those words on a sticker for 2.500 Baht plus, because the warranty covers effectively - nothing. Well it was three weeks since my last encounter with them so i went again, asking the same old question - 6260 STILL can't use Web, still crashes twice a day, etc - can upgrade or still no?

To my surprise i heard "Yes sir, you can visit Nokia Shop in Seacon Square, just on the other end of Bangkok. They have the equipment!" OK i would take that, but once they send me to the SOUTHERN end of Bangkok (Patholyothin Road, Head Office, for NOTHING... and now they sent me to the EASTERN end, Bangna area..... both from quite center, Prathunam. From there to either destination means a two-hour-plus ride. What they did NOT know is that i in fact LIVE in Bangna, so i can literally walk to Seacon, hee hee. But still, i demanded a phone number, to ask FIRST before i walk there to hear "Sorry, no equipment" again. So i got two landline numbers.

Back at home, i started trying those.

Both of them went on to ring "engaged" for several consecutive days. No way, never got thru. Yesterday i then decided "both numbers busy all the tim, i guess whole Thailand must be bringing their 6260's to flash" so i grabbed that phone and got to Seacon. At the Nokia Shop i was friendly advised that they don't do repairs, but there is a "Service Station" in the same building.... which i found eventually, yes, there were about 100 people waiting (no BS here!) and most of them carried 6260's. I am NOT making this up!

I took a number and after only 1 hour it was my turn. I handed over the 6260, demanding a "Software upgrade". The lady (and why the hell do they ALWAYS employ females for these technical tasks???) said staright away "Sorry sir, you must come back tuesday, the technician is on holiday". I went like WHAT THE F***, "Give me your damn phone number where i can get thru coz i am fed up travelling around this city from one place to another hearing stupid excuses". She went on "Sorry, my technician is too busy he can not go to the phone". In that moment (!) the door to the backroom opened and i saw not one but THREE technicians (yes, men in Nokia dress, working on partly dismantled phones!) working there!!

I looked her firmly in the eyes and said, firm: "I just saw your techie doing his holiday right there behind you in that room. Now take my phone and give it to one of them, or i call my lawyer. I paid a one-month salary for this piece of junk, having had trouble from day one and Nokia sends me travelling. I want this fixed, right here and now!" I am not normally a rude guy, but being lied at once too often by Nokia.

She took the phone, filled in a form and told me to be back at 7 PM, some four hours later. So i went, killing time in Seacon which is a HUGE shopping complex. Still not big enough to kill four full hours, but i got it over with. Been back at the service station at 6.50, she was still there but most customers were gone and the other service staff were gone also. Only all three techies were still busy in the backroom. She went in and came back with my phone (well, my boyfriend's).

I turned it on - yes, something was done with it. All memory was empty (except the MMC), it looked like a virgin new phone except the still broken keypad. Well. I pressed *#0000# and what did i see..??

v 3.0436.0

THE SAME AS WAS BEFORE!!!!!!!! And off i went, near an explosion. "What did you do the last four hours. I have the same old crap as before. I want an UPGRADE not the same buggy stuff!!! What am i supposed to do when it fails again tomorrow, which it for sure will????"

She went talking to the techie for quite a while and then tried to explain to me that there was only that one software version available for that model, and even showed me FOUR phones "fixed" the same day, two silver and two black ones - and all of them had that same version. I asked "What is the latest version?" and she walked me over to the Nokia Shop were i been first, and there another guy went to explain to me that there is no newer version as yet "In Thailand, you know, Thailand slow-slow". Yes, i saw that. In the meantime i had started "Web" to test, then set the time and a few things, and started "Web" again - and it came with "app closed: Web". Oh great, not even a day. I showed the guy. He was stunned.... did a format, started it up twice and "Web" was working - again, after the time was set, it "app closed" again!

So i aasked him: "Did they actually FLASH the phone or did they just format it in the last four hours??" He went on the phone... and got back to me with what i think is complete bullshit:

"They did upgrade your software. But after the flashing, the phone could not turn on. So they reflash again with original version and it works."

I asked: "What if the problem will come again? Same version, same problem, no?" And he said, smiling and in all honesty: "Then you come back here and we fix again" (!!). I asked "And if it happens every day??" And again (i think he did not really get what i was up to) he said "Oh no problem, we have warranty, you can come every day and we fix for free" (!!!!!) Only then i asked "And do YOU pay me for the time that i can not spend in office, and for my travel costs?". That hit him.

He then hastily gave me a phone number, saying that "This is Nokia Thailand. Please call, maybe you can claim a new phone. I have to go to other customer" and basically ran out of the room.

Oh well, the number he gave me is not connected.

Dear people here, it is called NokiaFREE and in my signature it says "Nokia is Best...." But i for a part am fed up with Nokia like iimagine, nobody else could be. I don't know too much about other countries, but here in Thiland, where you normally get good service for justy about everything, Nokia has the worst i ever encountered, anywhere. Not only do the outright lie to the customer, they also seem to have fun wasting as much as possible of customer's time by sending them to all sort of places for nothing, giving the stupidest possible excuses ("technician on holiday", "phone did not turn on after flash with new version") and always blame everything on someone else. The shop i bought the phone sends me to Nokia, Nokia sends me to another and another and another Nokia branch, and finally i end up with - exactly, NOTHING. Still same phone, same software, same problem.

The 6260 is my worst experience i ever had with any phone, and both me and my BF have owned a large number of phones over several years. Many of those have been Nokia's. We are thinking of selling this 6260 as soon as we can find a new keypad somewhere and getting a Siemens SX1 or similar Symbian device but NOT from Nokia.

Kind regards.....

Thanh

PS what is the latest software version in a 6260..?

Nokia care ctr is not bad, forget the rest!

but then again, give them time!

anyway, new phones, so its understandable no new firmware upgrades, maybe in the next few months too. theres nothing u can do for now, only options are:

1) wait
2) sell if off
3) bite ur teeth and bear with it.

or maybe u could just not use the web in the phone.

Other Nokia S60 phones are not that bad. I was completely satisfied with my 3650, that I sold a while ago. My N-gage QD that I have now is also alright, except for the rubber ring that get's loose. I have also heard good things about other S60-phones like 6600, 7610 and 6630.

to thanh;

I have a 6260 in the UK and am waiting until tomorrow to see wether there is a new upgrade available (its a nationaly holiday today). I do believe that there is a new upgrade available as it took me 3 weeks to get my 6260 mainly because of problems with my service provider, When i called them first time they said there were none in stock, so i waited, and called, and waited until eventualy they SAID they had 3 left, and i'd be assigned one.... never came, Then i got an email saying it would be early-mid january for delivery, after cursing and ranting for a while i resolved to looking for a different handset....

Couldnt find anything cheap enough, so i thought i'll wait for the 6260... it turned up NEXT DAY... madness. When i looked at the box it seemed that it had been a bit battered and bashed, later i found out from the service provider had sent ALL of thier stocks BACK to nokia for some undisclosed reason (software upgrade?!?) and thier operatives had been advised to offer alternate handsets, I dont know why I got one, maybe it was all the phoning and timewasting that I did to them... anyway I have the same software version as you and i'm hoping there's a new one out by now, if there is i'll post a new message here with the details for all to see.

If there is a new version i hope they resolve some issues such as the fact the screen does NOT turn off when the flip is closed, it just goes to screensaver, then to the other default screensaver (clock with time and date) which may resolve some issues with the REALLY, REALLY, REALLY crap battery life. Nokia states 150 hours standby, i left mine on standby, with full signal, full charge, I NEVER touched it the whole time and it died within 2, count them TWO days, that equates to less than 48 hours. Go figure.

Laters guys.

Hi there :)

Yeah i heard of the 6260 being taken off the market in the UK because of too many problems. I can only warn EVERYONE not to get a 6260, not unless it has toroughly been upgraded!

My boyfriend's is now back in action, with "Web" still working after my last *#7370# sction - and being carefull, not installing ANY third-party application on it. It seems to be the very first Symbian that auto-screws something generic as soon as something non-generic is installed.

Well, now after the "flashing" or whatever they did to make it end up with the same software version, i am proud to tell that the phone lost it's SMS memory completely. As soon as the phone is TURNED OFF (not battery taken off as before!) ALL saved SMS will be gone. Regardless if they are in "Inbox" or in other folders. After the phone is switched on, the whole SMS thing is virgin and empty, own created folders have gone as have SMS's in the inbox. MMS stay tough......

My boyfriend is looking at a 6630 now.

Kind regards.......

Thanh

PS i totally screwed up my 3650 yesterday... Psiloc sucks! Looks like i gonna have to get it flashed too :) At least mine canm be done in the phone shop across the street at 100 Baht in 30 minutes :)
