We have now tried reloading software you supplied, software supplied with the phone and from sony ericsson web site.(each several times!!) Have also been in touch with SE for advice and followed it.
Sadly the result is the same as soon as we try to do anything the Error message 'Unable to connect - an unexpected error has occurred' appears .
It seems highly possible the lead is faulty in some way , unless you have another suggestion.
