Hi all,

I'm trying to get to grips with using the music player on the 6230. I have put some tracks on the memory card using the card reader, but cannot play them!! I can browse and play them in the gallery, just not using the music player! :???:

The only track that I can play in the music player is one that I loaded into the Music folder on the phones memory. Is there some way of telling the player to look at the memory card?

There must be an easier way of using this than I've found. The main reason I got the 6230 is because I can also use it as an MP3 player. I got a 1Gb card for it, as a simple alternative to getting an iPod.

If any one has a tutorial on how to use the music player I would find it most useful. The manual dosen't really seem to give much away (It's the Orange manual, which only seems to be concise when it comes to using Orange services, but merrily skips over how to use the phone )

put the files in the root directory of MMC card or create playlists with MobiMB

Ahh yes, That seems to work fine when they're in the root of the card.

I think I'll have to go the play list route though as I organise the albumns into folders on the card. Shame really, I hoped it would be a little more intelligent and scan the whole card. Preferably alowing you to search/play by album or artist name by reading the file tags (in a similar manner to windows media player or an iPod). Oh well, can't have everything I guess. Would be a nice feature for a future firmware release perhaps!

BTW, what other useful features does MobiMB have for the 6230, especially above and beyond the features of Nokia PC Suite 6.41? Is it worth the price tag?

You can have the files in folders and create playlist to play te files.

Nokia 6230 v5.24 already scans the folders and finds the music files.

Ahh, that would be great. I'm only on firmware 4.44, it's a brand new phone.

Is 5.24 actually released (i.e., can I go to a nokia service center and get it updated), or is is still a beta?

Hello,
I have written a tutorial on how to create and use playlists on the Nokia 6230.

You can view the tutorial at http://www.ajaydsouza.com/archives/2005/01/19/creating-playlists-in-nokia-6230/

Great tutorial, thanks.

I have updated my phone firmware to 5.24 now, which automatically scans all folders on the memory card and adds them to the 'all tracks' list. You still have to add playlists if you want to only play a subset of the files though.

In the next firmware I would like to see the option to play a folder of music files (similar to media player in XP, you can right click a folder of mp3's and select 'play with media player' and it creates a playlist). If anyone knows how to get this suggestion in front of the people who matter...

Great tutorial, thanks.

Your welcome.

I am still debating whether to upgrade my firmware or not.
