For all of you that are interested firmware 5.24 is now available in the UK for the Nokia 6230. I got mine updated at my local service centre on Saturday.

It has a lot of improvements over 4.44. Not least the fact that it will scan the memory card for music files, and alow you to have a shortcut to the music player via your right / left keys.

Also how it mutes the wallpaper out when the phone rings so that you can see who's calling against a dark background is very usefull. Still though I would have prefered to have the option to change text colour, as you still cannot see the clock, etc, against a dark background.

As an added bonus you can now also have animated gifs as your wallpaper, although the animation does seem to stop after a while and there's no way to re-start it (this appears to be a bug). Also animated screen savers stop after about 10 seconds (but restart next time the screen saver starts).

Apparently the battery life is suppoed to be improved too, but I cannot confirm that.

It is totally free to upgrade at a nokia service centre in the UK, so long as the phone is still under warranty (so in the first year I think).

Sometimes they quiz you about why you need it upgrading (usually cos they can't be bothered to do it), so just pick anything of the change list as your excuse!

Hi,

Can anyone enlighten me. I have constantly upgraded to firmware to get rid of bugs on the phone. The main proble I still have is the interaction between my Bluetooth headset and my phone. Receiving calls is fine but making them, through voice dialling, has been a constant pain since I upgraded from 3.15 which I had to do to stop the phone switching off.

Bottom line here is that pressing the button on my HS810 often achieves nothing except to freeze or crash the phone. I have tried a new headset so i know it is the phone. Has anyone else suffered a similar fate and if so do you know if 5.24 fixes it as the tech update above only states Bluetooth improvements which is pretty vague.

it deletes everything.
it's just like if you buy a new phone

backup your settings and files (use Nokia PC Suite) or they will be erased

They asked me at my local service centre if i wanted it as a vodafone live phone or not,so yes you get it just clean if you want when you get the software upgraded.

How can you tell what software version your phone has. thanks ,baz.

type *#00000# in to the key pad you will then see the phone product code eg for 6230 you will see RH-12 followed by the date for that software version and the software version actually on the phone.

so for example on my 7610 which i upgraded 10 miniutes ago when i type in *#0000# i get the following info

v 4.0441.0
08-10-04
RH-51

hope this helps you
