8210 Memory backup battery

Dear Sirs,

I have a question that I wonder since years : What is this very small battery doing in the screen plastic part, with 2 pins that connect to the circuit when assembling all; .. . What is the rule of this battery ? (small like watch battery)

Phone working as well without it. ..

Thats battery has the mission of maintaining some devices activated when no battery is in the phone. The battery try to maintain the system clock, the clk signal, and so on...

The memory needn't to be feeded due to they are flash memories and not RAM memories.
