You will need a box, the cheapest box you can get is JAF, which only supports Nokia phones, for more details go to http://www.odeon.cn/

The lock is indeed in the flash file. If you flash the phone with a file that has no lock programmed, your phone will be already unlocked.

To flash the phone, you need a box like griffin, prodigy, or something like that, the appropiate cable for your phone and the flash file. If you buy the box, it usually comes with the cables, and with a dvd with clean flash files. Now, if you flash the phone with another flash that is also locked to any network, your phone will also be locked to that network.

You can get a clean flash by downloading the flash file of another handset (of course, it has to be the same model as yours, with the same or newr software version), but you also need a box to do that.

The equipment to do the flash process does not, as you said, justificate for just one handset, so my advice is to take it to a shop and let them do that for a small charge. They will flash it with an already clean flash file, so it will be unlocked.

What? The flash file? Impossible, it's part of the opartive system of the phone.

As I said before, you need special equipment. A box, specifically. Check the link on top of the site to ucables.com, and see prices and variety.

It's simple indeed:

No box=No hardware unlock=No flashing.
