Question about flashing

I "inherited" a nokia 8290, and the previous owner told me it worked fine until he tried to flash it, and ever since then, it wouldn't turn on anymore.

I've been looking for hours on info about re-flashing it, but before I look any more, I'd like to know if I can't even turn it on, is there's anything I can do? (I have a parallel and serial cable for it).

That thread says "Next press FLASH in the program and after that you must press POWER ON in the phone for short time to initialize upload."... So does that mean it has to respond when pressing the power button?

Also, is it a problem if the battery is dead? (I can't charge it since the phone doesn't seem to respond to anything, including plugging a charger in)

When it says "Power on Phone (if needed)" try plugging in the charger then. (instead of pressing the power button.) ;-)
