WELCOME TO VIEW THIS NEW TREAD OF MINE!
to all you buddies who own a 5210, discuss and ask quietion here!
It's time to rock and roll with a 5210~!
i modify my 5210's bitmaps and fonts. but after i flashed it to my phone with Knok-pheonix - build 1, it has no network coverage and it resets automatically for a period. I'ved update faid, change imei, clear SP lock with noktool but it's still the same. can any master who know can help me out for this?
also when i flash my phone with flasher 4.78, it on for a few seconds and then reset automatically and says "contact service".
for a 5210, i discovered that knok is the best!
any other flashers that you'll can recommend me?
Regards.....

i have the same problem with my 3410. No network.
Hope someone finds out how to calc FAID/or update those extra checksums soon.
I use my 3310 instead, only because i can modify it!
yeah, that's true.
i think is the program we're using for calculating faid is not update enough, don't you think that?
so, program you use to calc faid?
and your flasher program..

You need to build or buy a dejan box
I've not personally tried it, but i think it can do it.

Can someone explain exactly what a dejan box is? what is better with a dejan box, than a normal dejan flash cable?
What's the price for a dejan box?

couldn't find any dejan box at peccomputers.co.uk...
But is updating faid the only advantage? or is it faster? can i unlock phones without PC?

dejan box uses dejan 103,104 or 105,
the box has hex code for programmable pic,
the way of dejan box flashes the mcu and ppm file to phone and updates the phone on lpt port before showing done! means the flashiing is finish and automatically has signal without using faid updating,i'm always using it in dct3 phones to have signal but not yet on 5210(i also have 5210) because i still doubt the flashers im using if it copy the 5210 correctly,
i too think this could be the way to update faid for 5210
but no one has tried it yet. since you have a 5210, just try it out master! you'll be the 1st who got this done then!
if you really got it, then i'll purchase a dejan box. it's not cheap, that's y i don't buy it for the time being until someone figure it out taht it works on a 5210!
thanks.....

Also allows unlocking by flashing, flashing/downgrading depending on phone model/version, and has built in M2BUS interface and Nokia Tool function for unlocking older 'legacy models'.
For use with Nokia 3210,3310,3330,5110,5510,6110,6150,6210,7110,8210,8850,8890 and compatibles. Flashing is full self contained and NO logging is necessary. if my flash back up of 5210 is really reliable then my doubt is gone and i may had done my suggestion without posting it,
i doubt my back up because sometimes it was save as "UNKNOWN FLASH FILE" so im still testing what flasher software for backing up my 5210 could give me confidence to do my suggestions,

you don't need dejan box to upgrade/update your phones. the faid updaters available today will do the same trick your dejan box could (update faid).
even if you have the dejan box, modified flash files for some dct-3 phones just won't simply work. these models use a different kind of algorithm for calculating the 32-bit flash checksum.
as an experiment try loading a good 3210 flash file using ppmmanager0.91.
you will notice that a good flash file will have a a crc (under ppm) which would look like 0xF72DD122.
now, once you modify a portion of that flash(i.e. change menu text), the CRC of your flash should also change. failing to do so would then cause your phone to loose network and reboot even if you update faid a thousand times.
btw, an uncorrected crc in ppmmanager would display as, 0xF72DD122!. take note of the "!".
new tools like ppmEdit automatically fix the CRC so you don't worry about this. sad to say, flashtone doesn't.
now try this on a good 3310 v5.13 flash. you will notice that upon loading it on ppmmanager, it will show that its CRC has a "!" on it, meaning it ain't calculated right.
however, if you flash this file onto your phone and after updating faid, you'll notice that it actually works!
conversely, if you do fix its crc's (using ppmmanager) and load it, you would be surprised that it would loose network and reboot.
why? nokia uses a different algorithm to calculate their crc's on this particular flash.
phone flash affected:
3310 v5.03 - v5.13
3330 v5.30 up
3350, 3410, 5210, 8855
and i think the rest of the new dct-3 models.

aZyWeRks:
yes you are right. (i think)
Therefore, someone should find out more about this new algorithm. The people who made programs like PPMmanager, shouldn't they be able to do something?
yeah, i tried that b4. that's true. if your update crc in ppm manager, the flash will be damage! it's not really damage lah, like 'string' eeprom not found when you scan with rolis flasher which results contact service after flashing

@ aZyWeRks
nice explaination and your right,i always see the sudden changes when clicking ok on ppm manager, its just im used to it on dejan 104 for flashing after editing, updating mcu or ppm crc flash files.
on your opinion, whats safe for making backup 5210?

@NLOGOMASTER
Rolis Flasher will do. However when writing into 5210, use knok (at least with MCU area).
@ luN
Maybe you accidentally included the eeprom area while updating. just use plain mcu and ppm.

yeah, i was also having same prob. after i flashed my 5210 5.16 with 5.20 there was no network. i tried and looked into it for 2 days and finally after repeating a simple method , ie uploading flash from "knok_phoenix_1a" and updating faid using "Eeprom Tools 3.1 for DCT 3 Nokias" and waiting for 5 mins after updating, phone was ready. with full network and no hanging.

No sense talking about this 5210 crap. :)
Download ChkKiller by joox. Patch your 5210 flashfile, your choosing, upload it to the phone, calculate FAID ONCE then flash all you want!!!
For more info, search for the latest posting of Joox and/or g3gg0.
I've tried this with my 5210. I added ringtones, new line and blinking text message.
