View Full Version : Why keep old serials/GENs?

I read the "GEN Explained" sticky (hopefully correctly).

I remember reading that new serials/GENs are being discovered because Nokia is coming up with new locks. From what I read, when a new serial/GEN is found to unlock the newer phones, it will also work on older phones, as well.

So why keep the old serials/GENs in the list when using a calc? Why not just use the newest serial/GEN that's been found? Are they really not backward compatible?

Mr. subway999 is correct. As long as Nokia has the power to decide which serials to use, we're tied to those gens.

A good example, besides the one that mr. subway999 gave, are some newer 1100b in Argentina. While ONE serial is newer than Original serial, newest 1100 will unlock only with Original.

That's why the serial is a dynamic and almost random variable, because there's no easy way, nor rule of thumb, to know which serial was used and which serial will indeed work or is blacklisted on the firmware.

I hope this helps a little!

So how do you guys find out which serial works with which phones? How do you get to keep testing phone unlock codes over and over again if you only get 5 tries?

a lot of people here, moderators, old users, etc., use a box to unlock a phone instead of the codes process.

But a box can read the variables also.

So, while in awhile, when we common users are lost, hopefully a moderator has the key.

Anyways, there's a basis that we go constantly modificating on nokia and different models, and the basis used. For example, in Argentina there are not too many serials. Almos everything is limited to GTCL-001 and V2, while lately thay've started to use Original. For experience, almost all nokia models use the same serial in the same periods of time. For the code number, invariably code seven does the job always.

In UK, the thing is pretty different. Some models have even three locks (three codes) to unlock them, and there's a different basis relating to the relationship between model and serial.

It's just a matter to keep reading this forums as Mr. subway999 said...

Best of lucks, and enjoy your time here.
