Hi: I am new to the Forum. Dumb question; I have a Vodafone (UK) 6230 phone and a US Nokia 3100b as well on Cingular (US).

I have managed to unlock the 6230 using Code 1; my goal is to use the new 6230 in the US with my Cingular SIM card. However, as I travel between US and UK each month, I did the unlocking in the UK as this is where I learned of the site. SO once I unlocked it, I inserted the US SIM card into the phone but cant get a signal. When the Card is in the other Nokia (3100b) phone here inthe UK everything works fine, as it should

SO I have several questions:
1) What is the 6230 - DCT3 or DCT4 - the phone does not appear in the list of phones on this website. I am posting on the DST3 unlock forum but maybe should be posting on the DCT4 one - I cant tell?
2) Why cant I get a signal when I place the US SIM card into the phone (6230) here in the UK, while I am fine when its in the Nokia 3100b phone?
3) Can this be a case where it may work in the US but not here in the UK, because of some complications of using a US SIM card in a UK phone - ususally people go the other way - ie place a UK SIM in a US phone when in the UK, if you see what I mean; I am trying the opposite placing US sim into UK phone in the UK!!!

Any help is appreciated

Q1 solved, it's Dct4, so moved to there.

6230 is a DCT4 phone.

I don't know if I understood correctly, but it's logical that the US sim will get no signal in the UK, if that is what is happening.

A sim card gets signal when it finds it's own network -hence network codes, etc-. If you're getting signal with the US sim while in the UK on the 3100, THAT'S THE STRANGE THING, not the opposite (or what is happening with the 6230). What is happening with the 6230 is logical. A US sim should get no signal in the UK, and viceversa.

I hope this helps a little!

Hi Edge:

I read your post but I will tellyou why I am stil puzzled.

It is not strange for my 3100b, US phone, to get a signal with US SIM in the UK; it is a quad band phone set to work all around the world, as is the 6230; so normally I use the 3100b to call back to the US and I receive US calls on the 3100b; BUT I call in Europe on the 6230.

Therefore, isn't it logical to switch the 3100b SIM card (which works inthe UK) into the newer 6230 phoen and have it work too? See what I mean?

Interested in what you think
