I have a nokia 6620 for cingular service. I've tried the normal unlocking methods to no avail. When I put a sim card from another provider into the phone, thephone simply says "SIM card not valid" and offers no options to remove the simlock, nor will it let me punch in any numbers.
Does anyone have any ideas about how to get this phone unlocked without having to use a cable?
Thanks in advance.

It works with cingular sim cards.

you have five attempts to unlock the phone via codes. If you enter five wrong codes, then the only way is cable. Of course, cable means a box.
Unfortunately, there's no other way.

It's not that I'm entering incorrect codes. The phone isn't even telling me that the codes are wrong. Normally when you enter an incorrect code, the phone says "code error". The phone isn't even acting like it will even accept attempts to enter the unlock code. Usually the screen clears after you punch in the last #. Mine doesn't. it acts almost as if I was dialing a phone number. this to me is really unusual behavior.
I'm totally at a loss. Has anyone seen a 6620 act like this?
Thanks.

some new handsets need to have a different sim than the one that the phone is locked to in order to be unlocked.
I guess that is what is happening to you. Put another sim on the phone, from the a different provider, and then enter the code.
Post results please!

I put an AT&T SIM card in the phone. When it powers up, it says "SIM card not valid"
When I enter in the code and hit the "#" key at the end, nothing happens. no "code error" message, no "phone restriction off" message. Nothing happens at all.
Am I missing something here?
Help!
Thanks!

bill,
I've already tried the unlock code generator. As far as I can tell, the code that I'm entering is the correct one, but the phone is simply not accepting the code input, as if it's not setup to accept ANY codes. Normally when you enter a code, the phone responds in some way (i.e. "phone restriction removed" or "code error") My 6620 isn't giving me anything like this at all. In fact the phone isn't doing anything.
I'm at a loss.. I think I may have to order an unlock cable.
Anyone else have any suggestions?
Thanks again.

are you sure you are generating correct -15 digits- codes? it could happen that you are not entering a full code...
if that is not the case... we have a little problem, houston :D

coming into the same problem with another 6620 locked to rogers at&t in canada
enter in the code with no sim and it just says insert sim after the last # is entered
enter in the code with a foreign sim and it just says invalid sim afterwards...no code error message
