I have a nokia 6230. I have successfully unlocked other phones with similar unlock codes. However, when I input the code (eg #pw+ 79 90 60 43 40 44 40 2 +1#) nothing happens. The code remains on the screen! it is not registered.
Can you explain and offer a solution?

probably you need to put another sim on the phone, a different one from the one that the phone is locked to, and then type the code.

The 6230i,s that I have unlocked needed the original accepted sim card to unlock
This has been discussed at length in other threads
ok... do you have an answer to his problem aside your comment? because it's not helping him just to contradict what I thought and nothing else...
Please lets try to help here. I gave an option. It's better if you give him another perspective instead of that comment alone. ;)

Sorry, but for new 6230i you have to enter the code with a NOT ACCEPTED SIM CARD inside the phone
That's definitely sure.

of course it may vary from version to version... that's why i said "probably" and mr. Gieffel said "new 6230i".

I thought that the SIM card MUST be removed from the phone before the unlock code is entered! It says so in the software instructions. Is this incorrect?
Do some people reccommend that SIM cards are left in the phone while entering unlock codes?

There's no pattern. Some phones need to have no sim, some the accepted sim, some a not accepted sim. All the 1100 that I have unlocked needed to have no sim in it. As Mr. Gieffel said, the 6230i that he unlocked needed to have a not accepted sim, and as Mr. subway999 said, he had another experience.
As I said at the beginning, there's no pattern.
I guess with the heterogenity of last models, it's a matter of trying.
Eventually, if the set of codes is correct, the phone will be unlocked.

As an additional info I have to tell that when I unlocked these new models with a rejected SIM card on, without SIM it happened NOTHING, no reaction at all from the phone,
means that the try is not taken into account, thus you can try all the combinations

Newer phones MUST have either the original or sometimes a different simcard in the phone
With the 6230i that I have unlocked I have used the original(accepted) simcard
To unlock the phone TYPE/ASIC 6-GEN 32821 asic 6
Generally you only need code ONE try once and post results if the code is correct you can check the phone by typing code SEVEN

To Clarify, my phone is a 6230 and NOT 6230i locked to T-mobile UK.
I've tried the codes with sim cards in and am now getting a CODE ERROR.
I've tried 2 codes (#1 and #2) with "New Griffin" option.

What software do you use to create your codes? mine does not do asic6 for dct4 phones.I've been using Code Calculator by CYBERDOG & HOLLOWMAN Version 5.4

go to the unlock codes section in this forum, and download nokiafree calc v3.10 (or 3.20, i can't remember which is the latest version).
Once you install it, go to options and set the calc to "expert" mode, so you can change the settings manually.

Sorry, I know were going around the houses here, but...
I have a Nokia 6230i locked to T-mobile...
I've tried using the downloaded code gen proggie V3.10 using the following settings...
Nokia
DCT4 (expert only)
IMIE (not telling ya!..)
United Kingdom
T-Mobile-One 2 One
MCC+MNC: 23430000
Asic 6
T-mobile 32802
I tried using an Orange sim card in my phone, entering the seventh unllock code.
When I got the screen up I entered the unlock code "pw+848---------213+7"
got code error message...
I have 3 attempts left, and don't want to screw it up.. anyone got a definate solution, as there seems to be a lot of confusion on this matter..
Many thanks, Alex

the GEN/serial you used is for T-Mobile USA phones
You should use the most safe GEN's nowadays: ONE (32836) and Original (32779)
cheers and good luck

Yep, you got it right, although it doesn't hurt to try without SIM inside first. Only if phone doesn't acknowledge the last hash (#) then you use the SIM.
..and we'll never get sick of users that respect the rules ;)

Indeed I think that both serials will work. You can check this of course... use whatever serial you chose. Let's suppose that it works... then generate another set of codes with the other serial, enter it, and see the message... I'd bet that you will get a message telling you that the phone restriction is already off. The conclusion, is that both serials work.
Don't be afraid of trying.

With respect moderater Erm, no, the guy needs to use Asic 6, Box serial 32821 (Asic 6) for his phone.
I disagree with you if he unlocked his phone with the box Asic 6 to which I believe he would be successfull after that no matter what code he imputted in his phone he would see the message 'phone was not restricted'.

http://ccgi.gsmzone.force9.co.uk/forum/ best forum on the net for all your unlocking problems.
No need to say "with respect" Mr. MarkieT...
Let's see if I can explain better. The message, of course, will not say "Hey you, smart guy, you had already entered a valid code five minutes before, so the phone was already unlocked... anyways, this code is also valid, so congratulations, you got two valid codes!! your getting nokia, right??" Phone messages lack that kind of verbosity.
What I meant was that you can check if two codes generated with two different serials do work in a certain phone. Once the phone is unlocked, it is unlocked. If you enter an incorrect code, the phone will display "code error" message, but will not re-lock.
If you enter another valid code, the phone will display again "sim restriction off". This is an useful tool. This way, once a handset is unlocked, you can check all serials and see which are already blacklisted and which are not. Surprisingly, in my october '03 1100, v2 is already blacklisted.
By crossing this messages and the phone's firmware date, we keep a track of which serials will -approximately- work until a given date. That way, the 'guessing' margin reduces.
So, let's suppose that the best bet in this case is asic6 serial. He can generate generate the codes and successfully unlock the phone. Afterwards, the phone will remain unlocked, no matter if you enter correct or incorrect codes. So, trying a code generated with serial ONE will only tell us if the code is correct or not.
I said that probably both serials should work, since ONE is working on phones with firmware dated july 05.
