Can't make work flasher cable on Armada M700

Hi guys,
I have a notebook Compaq Armada M700 and I can't make work the flasher cable!
I've installed Win XP with UserPort and Win 98: with Win XP flasher by Rolis it doesn't recognize the phone, with Win 98 it crashes!
I think it depends by the parallel port, that doesn't seem to be standard: I found this solution:

but I can't understand if I should short-circuit some pins and how!

Can anyone tell me please if flashing programs work if I use a converter from parallel to serial???
