View Full Version : Nokia 6230 under Partner Israel / "phone not restricted"?

I've been trying to unlock my Nokia 6230 for a while but I just couldn't make it. I tried using the online calculator and got some "code error" but then I got it right. When I use the codes now it says something like "phone not restricted". However, when I try inserting the new sim card (Movistar - Argentina) it asks for some security code. Is my phone already unlocked? Will I have to take it to a shop? I have no idea what to do next. Any help appreciated.

BTW, the phone is 6230 and I used the asic 6 / Israel - Partner tel.

security code is not a network operator restriction but instead a phone restriction available to the owner.

what it means is that the phone is unlocked but the security code option is ON.

Four options come up:
1- You have a way to get the code and type it when asked
2- The security code is still the default (set by Nokia) and you just use it - 12345
3- You have access to a set of FBUS cables to read the code with progs available
4- You wait for Schwantz to have the online master code calculator running again and try to get it by using the phone's IMEI

Anyway, you could have found any of the options if you'd taken the time to use the forum's search engine!

good luck

Hey, thanks for the answer. Actualy I knew about the 12345 default but I wasn´t sure that the phone was already unlocked. I tried the 12345 option but it doesn´t work. I know that the security code can be changed but I don´t know how. The only way to override the security code is by taking it to a service center???

well, i'm not very convinced the service centers will reset the sec code to default but anyway, the best way to know is try it.

If not the only numbers 3 and 4 of my previous post can help you

But Mr. lothas is in Argentina I think for the provider he is trying to use. Getting a Nokia Center to do something here is pretty difficult (I'm from Buenos Aires).

The best thing you could do I think is trying two things: if you have a computer that can connect to the phone, you can use Gammu to read the security code.

The second, is trying to find someone with a Symbian phone that may be able to calculate a master code or you.

What calls my attention is that, if the phone, with the new sim, is asking for a security code, I don't know if it is the security code of the phone, or the security code of the SIM (the one that is ased previously to the PUK code). But I'm not sure.

I tried several codes and haven't been able to unlock the phone. I don't have the nokia cable but I have a notebook with bluetooth, would it be possible to read the code with that? What do you mean by a symbian phone? My brother has a motorolla with windows mobile on it, will that work?

Wait, let's set some things clear before we start.

1.- If you turn on the phone with a sim different from the one that the phone is locked to, and it does not say "Invalid SIM", then the phone is correctly unlocked, or at least partially unlocked with a valid code.

2.- If the phone is asking for a code (NOT security code), it may be needed another code from the set. When an unlock code is calculated, the calcs generate a set of seven codes. The provider can use just one lock (first lock is disabled by +1 code, and there on), or maybe more locks, and you'd need to break ALL those locks (fifth code with +5 code, etc). Maybe the code that the phone is asking is another code from the same set that the first code was generated.

3.- If the phone is asking for a Security code, that is a security code set from within the phone to restrict the access to the phone -not the sim compatibility-. So, there is the possibility that someone locked the phone at start up. As an example, I've set my 1100 to ask for the security code at start up. That is the code that Mr. mestrini and Mr. subway999 were referring to. That is just a security code of the phone, not an unlocking code.

So, in order to proceed correctly, it'd be good if you post EXACTLY what the phone asks for at start up with the Movistar SIM in it. After that, we can proceed on the correct path.

Well, now that I have read more about it and received some clarifying answers I know that the phone is unlocked but is asking for a security code. This security code is aditional to the PIN and PUK codes, it's like a password for some special options. When I use the original SIM on the phone it doesn't ask for the security code and I found out that I could change it (if I knew it) and that the phone security level is set to "phone" and that's probably why it asks for the security code when I try to switch SIM cards. Is there a way to get this security code or should I just keep trying codes?

Well, now that we know the problem is the security code. Have yoy checked the link that I posted previously? Per the author, that software should allow you to read the security code of your phone even over Bluetooth. As you said you have a notebook with bluetooth, there could be the solution.

If it works, let us know please! At least me, I haven tested that software, but it seems to have an advantage over Gammu (that is another software that can read security code), that is it works over BTth.

You have another option yet, and it is trying to find someone with a Symbian phone. Symbian is an OS designed to work specially with mobile devices (althoug there are some other devices using Symbian indeed). Communicator, 9500, 6630, 6680, Ngage, are all symbian phones (for details, there is a Symbian section in this forum).

There is an app that can calculate mastercodes (a mastercode is a code that works over the security code). Unfortunately, it only works in Symbian OS, and I have not been able to find a Symbian emulator outside of the Symbian SDK, which is a rather heavy download (approx 300MB).

If that app does not work for you, please post again and we will se what can we do.

He found the phone, thats why he does'nt know the security code, fone is most prob BARRED.

If the phone has a security code set to 'phone' then upon inserting a new SIM the phone will ask for a security code even when unlocked.

It amazes me that someone can protect there phone with a security code then forget it :x

Mr bam2000, first, next time please post in another thread, as this issue is separated from the main thread topic.

Second, now referring to your probem. Check that the frequencies of the networks and your phone are compatible. If you aare getting no signal, most probable thing is that the local network is working on a different frequency than your phone. Thus, your phone recognizes the SIM right, but it can't find the network.

Your phone must be either a 6230a or 6230b. They do work in different frequencies. Check which is yours (in the label under the battery), and chek which is sold there. If they differ, the problem is the frequency.

Unfortunately, there's no [easy] way to fix that. There is a solution, yes, but it involves hardware manipulating and firmware replace. All the equipment needed adds to a pair of thousand usd or more, without the replacement parts (basically, frequency filters). I that's the probem, there's not much a solution there.

Sorry for not having better news.
