hello all,
this is my first time trying to unlock, so i am very cautious and want to make sure of everything so i don't get my cool phone blocked by mistake.

i have nokia 3100.
before i use the code generated by the calculator let me ask you this:

1) network - this means the network the phone is locked to, as in the network it DOES opperate, right ?

2) GEN - which one should i use? i reas many posts and threads in this site, and am still not sure. when i hit *#0000# i get:

V 05.54
16-07-04
RH-19

which gen should i use? does it have anything to do with the network ?

thanks at advance !

Hi,

as for question 1 you got it right :)

as for number 2 better wait for edgecrusher to reply (or anyone with updated info) as he managed to give good advices lately. Still, better reply with the operator phone's locked to as some use special GEN ;)

cheers

thanks !

i know you prefer it when ppl search for information in the forums before posting new threads, so i read quite a bit of edge's messages. one thing i saw he wrote is the gens change a lot during time. since that message was from 2004, it couldn't do me much good since, obviously, gens changed since. so i started this thread.

well, i think sw form 2004 had no problem when using V2 GEN

why don't you try it just once? You'd still be with 4 attempts left (use code #7 then)

but then again, if you'd like to wait for edgecrusher it's your call

cheers

For RH-19 you should use the standard 3100 setting ....

Just a standard asic2 phone - V2 codes should work fine.

His firmware is July '04, depending on the provider, there's a good chance serial v2 is already blacklisted (I've found it blacklisted in may '04 Argentina carriers phones). A safer option would be Original (32779), or any newer serial, like Asic6 or ONE. But if v2 does not do its job, Original should

As mr. mestrini and mr. fugster said, v2 still could work. It would be useful if you post your network provider and, as you have five tries, post if v2 still works or not. If it does not, use Original. If you are on UK or USA, use code 1, and if it works, enter codes 2, 5 and 7 (even if they give you code error, your phone will not lock again, and sometimes provider use more than one lock). Anywhere else, just code 7.

Be careful, since some providers like Virgin for certain models, need a special serial.

Mr. mestrini, thank you for your words! In fact, if we know which serials work and which does not for a given firmware date, the credit goes for the people that once unlocked posts how did they managed to do it and their firmware date. I just keep a track on that :D , so the credit goes to the community.

Helllo Mr. bendo.

As for your doubt, yes, use code seven. In most cases, it is the code that it works. There are certain exceptions, but they are limited mostly to USA and UK.

As for which GEN to use. You have your full five tries, so we can try a little.

V2 could work, but I have found some phones dated may '04 to have it already blacklisted. So, you may try the seventh code generated with GEN v2. But, if it does not work, try the seventh code generated with GEN Original. I doubt it will not work, but, if it does not, you can go with the seventh code generated with serial ONE.

I hope this helps you a little.

thanks, i'll give it a go, i think. i just wish i do no harm.

is Original "stronger" than V2 ? and is gen blacklisting is a function of the manufucture of the phone, like nokia, or of the network in which it operates?

Actually you will do no harm, unless the five tries fail, in which case the only thing that will happen is that the phone needs to be unlocked via hardware.

It's not a matter of which is stronger. It's a matter of posibilities, due to the quantity of GEN released.

For an in depth explanation of the GEN, or serial, check this thread, in which Mr. gsmsolutionsltd posted a very good article.

http://nokiafree.org/forums/t74498/h/s.html

As for which serial to use, as I said, if the codes generated with GEN v2 do not work, you can try Original, which probably will unlock the phone.

Well you have five tries. If you try v2, it may help us to keep a track to which networks and models are up to date and which are not.

That's why I said you may try serial GEN v2.

But, in case it does not work, the other safe option is GEN Original (32779), which should do the job.

By the way, if your network is USA or UK, use first code. Otherwise, use seventh.

hey edge and all others

well, about my 3100, something very strange happened.
where i live the cellphone themselves are sold with the service. and every company that provides hardware and service automatically locks the phones it sells for use in the other company (there are only two providers here). i know this since i once tried to switch phones with a family member.

anyways, i naturally assumed that the 3100 i was telling you about is locked. well, apparently it's not. that's very surprising since the phone is obviously of the other company. it has it's opening logo, it's screen saver, etc.

so, the phone works. i can't understand how or why, but it does.

anyway i can delete the opening logo ?

also, if i try to delete all the information (e.g. address book) the phone requires a security code. anything i can do about it ?

thanks

As far as I know, the opening logo can be deleted only by flashing the phone.

As for the security code, you need to generate a master code or read the read the actual security code.

To read the security code, you need a connection to the phone (irda, cable), a software called Gammu (it's here, in the DCT4 Software forum, it's one of the stickys), and if you're using XP, another piece of software that let's Gammu control the port. It's all there in that thread.

If you want to generate a master code, there's a Symbian app that can generate a master code through your imei. The problem is that you'll need a symbian phone to make it work. That app is also in the DCT4 Software forum.

I hope this helps.
