View Full Version : "Not Allowed" means???

What does this message mean? The code should be right but instead of saying "CODE ERROR" (indicating the code is wrong), the message says "NOT ALLOWED"

Can anyone elaborate???

Would it have anything to do with a setting in the phone? Perhaps a security lock or something? Let me know, thanks

Use the search engine.... it's easy!

Not allowed means that your five tries have been wasted. You got the right code, but you got no more tries to unlock it via code. Now, unfortunately, the solution is via hardware (which does not mean "a cable and software", but a special and expensive device).

Try to find a small repair shop, which will flash the phone for a small fee (a box costs something like 400 Euro, and the fee will be max 30usd).

I don't think so.

I've had instances where it said "NOT ALLOWED" on code 7 but would unlock after putting in code 1 or another code calculated from a different box serial.

The message one gets if all 5 tries has been used is "CAN NOT UNDO RESTRICTION"

You're right, sorry, I read too fast.

You neeed to enter another code from the same set that the previous, since your provider seems to had used more than one lock.

The usual sequence is 1-5-7.

Sorry for the mistake.

Neither statement is quite correct, or rather both are correct in certain circumstances.

Some phone models give "Not Allowed" when an invalid level of code is used (examples include the 1100 and the 6310i), for example using a +1 might give "Not Allowed" when using a +5 will be accepted, or vice versa. Another similar circumstance (confusingly on Symbian phones) is when the phone only has 1 lock, and you try a second level code +2 (for example UK Orange 7610 will unlock with code +1 but give "Not Allowed" on +2)

Other models (mostly Symbian or DCT3) give "Not Allowed" when you have exceeded the 5 tries.

Don't ever enter more than one code (as commonly advised to use 1 - 5 - 7)unless you have checked ALL other details of the code calculation after the entry of the first.

Mr. fatboymal, agree with you.

As Mr. NokDoc stated here,

http://nokiafree.org/forums/showpost.php?p=372723&postcount=21

there seems to be more than one message for different code inputs. The problem is that is hard to find a pattern. I've never faced a phone that needed more than one code, because seems that in my country al GSM providers use just code 7.

My experience with 1100 is different. I've unlocked a lot of 1100, and the conclusions are the following:

-On firmwares dated may '04 and backwards, only the correct code gives "phone restriction off". Other codes from the same set give code error. When the five tries have been reached, a wrong code will still give "code error message" while a correct code will give "not allowed" or "cannot undo restriction" (randomly, I couldn't find a pattern except that all '03 handsets give "cannot undo restriction" except one, dated november '03. Oddly, Dec '03 gave also "cannot undo restriction").
-Firmwares June '04 and forwards, do not have a pattern, alternating "not allowed" with "cannot undo restriction", I'd say, randomly (but there has to be a pattern, it's just that I have not been able to find it).

On the face of this, it's sometimes hard to find a constant that allows us to say "that message means....". For what I know about UK phones (which I know there are more probabilities of using more than one lock), the message pattern is harder to track. There seems to be more heterogeneity between the input and message.

Like Mr. NokDoc said, as more users post their experience, with errors and successful attempts, maybe we could be able to track the issue.

I find that Nokia 2651 from TELCEL Mexico gives Not Allowed on everything I've tried on both code 7 and code 1

I've also had a lot of "Not Allowed" on TelCel 3220s (tried code 1, 5, 7) . What serial did you use?
