Hello everyone! I've just bought a Nokia 1100 off a mate but it's locked to a network I don't want. I've tried using the code generator but I can't get this model from the drop down menu. I'm a total novice at this so I could be doing something wrong. Any ideas?

Well, try reading faqs and using the search engine ;)
After that, post your doubts and we will do our best :)

Although the Faqs and searches were helpful, I'm still struggling a bit. The code 7 produced a "code error" on the phone, but one thread said that I should be using code 5 (32811) to unlock a Virgin mobile. How do I select this?

You have a confusion. Codes are generated through four variables:
1. imei
2. network code
3. asic type
4. GEN, box, serial (the three terms refer to the same thing)
The calc generated a set of seven codes. Most of the time just one is needed. We refer to 'code 5', as to the fifth code of the set, the one that ends with +5. Just like that, first code is the one that ends with +1, etc.
Now, 32811 is a serial, or GEN. It's not 'code 5'. I assume you have downloaded and you're using the nokiafree standalone calc, so there, go to options, check 'expert mode', and therefore you will be able to enter all settings manually.
32811 is a special GEN used by Virgin. Now, you didn't say which country/network is the phone locked to, so unless it is locked in Virgin UK I'd rather say not to use it.
So, in abstract, if you're on Virgin UK, use that serial, and try code 1 and if it works, code seven. If your phone is locked to another network, please post country and network, and type in your phone *#0000# and post firmware version and date.

I've tried a couple of codes now and finally figured out how to use the code generator, thanks to you. However I've now tried two codes without success; I got "code error" both times. So here goes with my phone info:-
UK
Virgin
Nokia 1100
V 5.62
25.10.04
RH.18
Hope this helps you more than it does me!
Thanks.

It remains to use code #pw+************+5# with the settings
Asic2 and GEN (or serial) 32811.
good unlocking

Hello. It seems I have used the right code but still got an error. I have calculated it again but it would mean entering the same code twice. Does this mean I will have to use a data cable?

If the total tries reaches 5 then only box+cable will allow to unlock the phone

On the two occaisions I have entered codes I have got "code error" and a graphic showing a box being ticked.
Although I have had only two attempts at unlocking, what I don't know is if my friend had tried any before selling it to me. The phone works fine with a Virgin sim.

Mmm... not so sure about Original for Virgin, as 32811 has been reported to work on several models under Virgin, including 1100 among others.

May be the number of tries is unsure, but for sure UK the serial for Virgin UK is 32811 for phones dated after nov 2004.
Did you already get the message "Cannot undo restriction", if not try again.

The only message I've had is "code error". I've just had a look at the codes generated by the 32836 settings and get 7 different codes to try!! Which one should I try? Really not used to all this messing about. How do you tell how many attempts have been made to unlock?

Cracked it! Used extended network code 23400001 code 5, and Gen 32836, if this is of any use to anyone.

Just a question... since I'm running Linux and I can't run the nfree calc... but, if I recall correctly, 32836 is not Original, that is ONE serial, which has been reported to work on may '05 amena handsets. That's why it will also unlock Virgin phones.
Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

I have to learn how to recompile the C source code for Linux (which, thanks to indear who released it under the GPL, is public)... because one day my memory will recall incorrectly.

Yes it was 'ONE' serial, and the network came up as 'Virgin - SPECIAL CODE', according to the NokiaFREE calc. Every little helps I s'pose.
