Hello all.
Bought myself a second hand 8910i off ebay knowing it was locked... the previous owner didn't specify which network it was locked to; i've emailed her and she says she doesn't know, will get back to me when she finds out.... (either its stolen or she's a complete moof...)
from the network selection and the GPRS settings i've surmised it was probably O2, which would be nice... but it aint since i've bought an o2 sim card and it says sim card registration failed :-(
I tried my Vodafone sim in there and discovered I could access my balance and send texts from it. but found out the other day I couldn't phone out from it. is it still locked even though I can send texts from the phone?
sorry for the newbie question, but any help would be appreciated

'SIM registration failed' isn't same as 'SIM not accepted' and being able to send/receive text and not phone calls is an indication of a 'probably' barred phone so i guess you bought a phone that someone reported stolen/lost or even a provider claiming a contract unpaid
better contact her again and demand money back, telling her you'll report that sale to ebay
If you paid by paypal i think you can get your money back but better get more precise info
cheers and good luck

wow really? she hasn't emailed me back for a very simple question I asked yesterday so you may be right...
So basically she has sold me a phone she recieved on contract that she doesn't technically own? or otherwise she's stolen it? I'll try to gather a bit more info on this.
I've actually attempted to unlock this phone via the code calculator, 5 tries with no joy so its permanently locked, went to a local shop that unlocks phones via cables and he had no luck either...
eek i'm worried about it now, my fault for bidding on a dodgy ebayer, but I payed via paypal so I can probably get a refund like you said..
thanks for the info.

If even the shop didn't manage to solve the problem then all points to a barred phone...
Found this number that is suposed to be an automated service to check if an IMEI number has been blocked/barred: 07953 968002
good luck

thanks for the quick response! i'll check it out pronto.
EDIT: That numbers for T Mobile, reported it as lost/stolen.
I'm not happy... its partly my fault for bidding on a dodgy auction in the first place; live and learn I guess..
I've emailed her asking for a refund through paypal.

She's no longer a registered user on ebay... and she hasn't replied to my emails. The evil cow's taken my money and run off
Guess theres nothing left to do but hand it in at the local police station
Thanks for the advice anyway

This is one of those times when i'm not happy for being right :-(
i think going to the police is the right thing to do so all i can say i good luck.
cheers
PS:
although i know this isn't the most righteous thing to do, selling it abroad is a way to get some money back and be sure that it will work since countries do no share barring lists (yet). but that's up to you now :P
