Can anyone tell me please models of old notebooks (in special way Pentium or Pentium II) with which it's sure it's possible to flash Nokia using flasher cable on LPT??
I have a Compaq Armada M700 and it doesn't work!

Thank you!

Mr. Wolf,

you must give us more detailed info as what program you're using, what sort of flashing cable - bought or built -, what OS you have installed

only then we can gather the info to reply more precisely

cheers

@Mr.Wolf

u need a flasher that connects to some other interface such as USB.
I dont know if it is available for DCT-3. I am also in need for that.

Have u tried an USB-to-LPT adapter to see if it works?

I wrote my problem with my Armada M700 here:

http://nokiafree.org/forums/t76470/h/s.html

Searching, I discovered that the problem depends by low voltage on LPT port on some notebooks, so I was looking for notebooks that are not affected by this problem!

I also tried with a port replicator, with a LPT on USB, but it doesn't seem to work, the manual says LPT is only for printers.

So, I don't know/think I can solve the problems changing some parameters or option of LPT.

Can anyone tell me then tested models of old notebooks with which is possible to flash?

Otherwise, does a LPT to USB converter solve the problem?

didn't you mean an USB to LPT?

why don't you try to make the cable advised in that thread?
Get an old printer cable and cut the end that connects to the printer. then buy a female 25 pin end and connect the 25 cables as Lead told.

I got a Griffin box than came without LPT cable and since no store could provide it i did exactly what Lead advised except the switched cables (no LPT reduction) just a simple straight LPT extension :D

Well, actually I'm not pratical in those things!
However I don't understand how it could solve the problem, that is where does the modified cable find extra voltage to feed the flasher cable??

I meant to connect the flasher cable on an adapter for USB, I saw one.
But I don't know if flasher program would recognize the flasher cable!
I searched, but couldn't find an answer!

So, I was looking for a old notebook with which it's possible to flash, one I can buy at small price on eBay!

I tried with a LPT to USB adapter, but it doesn't work!
It doesn't recognise the cable!

But...doesn't anyone flash with notebooks???

I do, and i have an "oldie" PIII 1000Mhz, but it has an LPT port and works fine in any OS (98,2k,XP) although Userport is required.
What i didn't get is a COM port and for that i use an USB-RS232 adapter but, unlike USB-LPT adapters, this works ok.

have you tried reaching Laser (from the link above) or contact the manufacturer to see if anything can be done?

cheers

PS: Why do you try an LPT-USB adapter? Shouldn't it be an USB-LPT instead? Try to go for that chance

With LPT to USB adapter I mean an adapter that allows to to connect LPT peripherals to USB port, but it doesn't work, even with my floppy reader, I think it works only with feeded printers!
You mean the same things, right?

As last attempt, I was thinking to try a LPT to Serial adapter, but in the Notebook manual doesn't report the voltage on Serial port, so maybe it doesn't work or it doesn't recognize the cable!

Who's Laser? Sorry, I didn't understand what link you refer!

I found this scheme to modify the flasher cable:

http://glbtech.mogyoro.hu/elektro/flasher.gif

But since I'm not practical, I'm not going to cut my cable!

I don't think Compaq could help me, since it's a hardware problem, maybe you should modify something.

P.S. What's the model of your notebook?

About Laser, it was my mistake, sorry. I meant "Lead"

And you still say LPT-USB adapter! I say USB-LPT! Doesn't your notebook have USB ports? Then why don't you try to get a cable that connects there and has an LPT end? That's what i do with the COM ports. I use USB cable with adapter.

My laptop is a CLEVO 2700T

That's what I tried! I have a cable that connects to USB and has a female LPT end to which I connected the flasher cable, but Winzoz recognise me this adapter like a "usb to printer cable" and the flasher cable doesn't work!

I say LPT to USB because it should convert the signal from LPT peripherals to USB.
Right?

NO

usually one starts by saying the name of the computer port (USB) and next the name of the end that connects to the peripheral

And since you have an LPT port on your laptop you could be talking about a cable LPT-USB

Ok, now that i understand we're talking about the same thing, what you need to do is to search Google (or any other engine) for people that have managed to get those cables being recognized as an LPT port (you'll probably have to add another LPT port and change the settings)

Ok being a market trader i rely heavily on laptops for flashing, and these are ones i have found to be good:

Toshiba Satelite, P1, 266 Mhz, Model CDT270
Toshiba Satelite pro, 500 Mhz Celeron, Model 1700-200
Tiny (also branded Advent, Time and Clevo) A360, 1000Mhz P3
Dell D600, 1.5 Ghz P4M
Viglen Dossier LC, 800 Mhz P3

Personally I have found that Toshiba laptops always have sufficient voltages available on both LPT and serial ports for all phone work!

Thank you squidgy45!!

I found this model on eBay, Tecra 720CDT, here are the specs:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_outFrm.jsp?moid=1073769795&ct=DS&soid=638385&BV_SessionID=@@@@1339789114.1131019275@@@@&BV_EngineID=cccdaddgdmeggeecgfkceghdgngdgnn.0

In special way, as reguards the LPT port, it says:

"One 25-Pin Parallel (8 bit ECP)"

Is it good?Do you think it's possible to flash with this one??

Mestrini, I searched, but found nothing, actually I don't think it's possible to do what you say, since Win XP recognise the cable as "usb to printer" cable!

Yes, i guess it's a matter of drivers.

Only my second USB-2-COM converter was successfully recognised as another COM port! But these converters are more common and drivers are better.

Another option you have is to buy a recent professional box since they now operate with USB ports and they flash old and new nokias

Look for JAF, Twister and the most recent from Griffin Team, the MT-BOX, although this last is very expensive (nearly 1000€, i think)

good luck m8 :)

Well, if it depends by drivers, it's hard to find one that suits!
A professional "flasher box" is an expensive investment, since now I'm flashing only Nokia 3310!

I think I'm going to buy the Toshiba I found on eBay, hoping it's possible to flash with it!
I need a notebook since I have no space for desktop and I need to carry it with me.

I dont expect you will have any problems flashing with that laptop, as i said toshibas are usualy very good for that sort of thing. Just make sure the lpt port is set to bi-directional (ECP/EPP) in the bios!

Good luck.

So...finally I bought on eBay an old Toshiba Satellite Pro 420CDS, and it works!!!!
Now finally I can flash!!!
Thanks a lot to squidgy45 and mestrini!!

wohooo :-D

i could say that it deserves a celebration, but i guess the fact you have a new toy to play with is already a gift ;)

cheers and flash away...
