Afternoon all,

Sorry to be a bother but I've searched the forum but havent found an answer, so this is my last resort before I crush this phone into tiny little pieces! Hope some kind soul here can help.

Right here goes,

I tried to unlock my UK Virgin Nokia 2600 and used the following settings (which I found here) within the unlock calculator.

DCT4 (expert only)
United Kingdom
Virgin specialcode (MCC+MNC : 23400001)
Asic 2
Serial box : 32811

I entered code 7. Everything seemed to go fine and I got the 'sim restriction off' message. I then gave the phone to my sis and today (two weeks later) she has brought it round and said it isnt working. She says she didnt really try and use it until yesterday.

So today I put an orange sim in and got 'sim card registration failed' message, I also tried a o2 sim and get exactly the same message.

So as the phone isnt working I figured I couldnt have unlocked it properly, so tried to enter in the codes again but each time I get 'not allowed' showing up.

Now Im completely confused as to what I should do next, any ideas what has happened or what I can do to get this unlocked and working. Could it be a fault in the phone itself, barred even! Though I do think its unlocked as it doesnt say 'sim not allowed just 'sim card registration failed'? Me sis aint too happy with me as said I would get her a cheap and easy unlocked phone, oops!

Anyways really hope someone here can help me out on this one.

Cheers.

Jav :)

(p.s. the software version info of the phone is: v4.42, 18-01-05, RH-59, (c) NMP. 2600)

If you got the message "restriction off", then the phone is unlocked
Isn't a security code required now, the message should be clear enough ?

Hi, thanks for the response.

It doesnt ask for any sort of security code and no security code was set up in the first place. The phone turns on and you can look through all the menus etc. Its just that whenever you turn the phone on with whatever sim you have in it, it says 'sim registration failed'. Its a weird one . I really need to know whats happened here, it looks like its unlocked but no sim cards register in it? Any ideas as to why this is? :???:

I have had this problem with virgin and tesco phones use code calc again and this time enter code 1

The phone is not locked, a locked phone will never attempt to register the SIM with the network.

"SIM card registration failed" is either due to the SIM card you are using being new and unregistered, or because the phone has been blacklisted due to it being reported lost or stolen.

Try a Vodafone or T-Mobile SIM. If it is blacklisted then the phone will turn on without an error, but when you try to make a call it will beep 3 times and drop the line.

right I tried the phone with a vodaphone sim as you said. And guess what it doesnt say 'sim card registration failed', though when you go to make a call it doesnt work and gives the 'der der der' tone and wont call. It doesnt even work with the original virgin network anymore. Does this mean the phones been blacklisted???!!

Couldnt it be something else? What reason would the phone me blacklisted for?!!

Im shocked if that is the reason, any advice as to what it could be?! :o

I never even tried a virgin sim in it to start with, i tried an o2. After I locked it the o2 one worked fine, thats when I gave the phone away. Should I contact o2 then, because thats apparently the sim that was in it when it stopped working?

Now I have it back and it wont work, so the only way a phone can get blacklisted is:

1.reported lost
2. reported stolen.
3. Freak chance of similar imei.

networks dont blacklist phones that you use a different sim in do they. I know this sound silly, but im trying to cover all angles here! Something dodgys going on, I rekon my sis aint telling me something!!!

surely virgin dont blacklist phones if you unlock them and use them on a different network? Anybody heard of this before? :???:

ok will do. still flabergasted as to why its been blacklisted. Have you ever heard of a network (i.e. virgin) doing this to their own phones after they've been unlocked? I certainly havent.

Right some new news. Spoke to my sis.

I can absolutely guarantee the phone hasnt been blacklisted, from when I bought the phone, i simply unlocked it. Turned it off then gave it too me sis. It was off for two weeks and she then put here T-Mobile PAYG sim in it and it didnt work, gives the symptoms above. Now there must be a reason why it is doing this, but it hasnt been reported lost, stolen or there hasnt been a breach of contract.

Anybody have any ideas, this is really weird and driving me nuts.

I appreciate your help but not your sense of understanding, I contacted virgin earlier they didnt barr it, they had no reason too!

Have found some other posts with the same problem, I know think it wasnt unlocked properly and the code was input 5 times hence it doesnt allow anymore to be put in. Thus it needs to be unlocked via a cable. Thanks for 'trying' to help but for the last time it wasnt blacklisted!!

Mate how many times do you need to be told.

The phone is unlocked, as it is a Virgin phone, and accepts other networks SIM cards without giving "SIM not valid" or "Phone restricted".

The phone IS barred.

Get back on to the phone to Virgin customer services again - note they will normally only tell the original registered keeper that a phone is barred - and tell them that the phone is BARRED, and ask why.

Are you sure your sister didn't report it lost or stolen? Or did she not pay a bill?

and how many times do I need to say it hasnt been barred! Do you research look on here, there are many others with exactly the same problem with the same phone, which happened after the phone wasnt quite unlocked fully, its a weird one I admit and gives symptoms of looking like it was blacklisted. But it was caused by the phone not being unlocked properly. Oh and for your info the phone wasnt reported lost or stolen and all bills were paid, it was a payg sim used not contract. Thanks for your help, but please appreciate even though it gives the symptoms of looking like its barred, it wasnt and can be rectified with unlocking the phone again with a cable.

This turns in an awkward situation. Although the phone does show signals of beeing barred, if Virgin says that it isn't, it isn't...

The only thing that I could think about is that when you don't charge some credit to your phone, the line is dropped by the provider. For example, in my country, with a prepaid line, if you don't use the line for three months, it will not work anymore, and sometimes the phone that was registered with that line won't register with any network. This a strange situation that I have not been able to fully understand, thus are all guessess...

I think that, if the original line is supposedly working, and the phone is under warranty, the best option is to take the phone to virgin tech support. Otherwise, take the phone to a small repair shop for a full flash. Take in account that any custom menu propietary of Virgin network will be erased and replaced with factory menus.

Best regards
