I know is old but... nec e606

Hi,
my sister just dismissed an old nec e606. I was just looking for a spare phone to use when i don't want to be reachable on the main phone.
Problem is this nec is lock by operator 3 (three), by the way i'm writing from italy. I was wondering is it possible to unlock this phone? I heard about a permanent and a temporary unlock... i need this phone to be operative with just one sim card so i guess the temporary unlock would be fine...
i searched the forum and i found this procedure


NEC Temporary Unlock:

Put a 2G (GSM-SIM) Simcard and turn ON the phone.
#4960*xxxxxxxx#
*4960*xxxxxxxx*xxxxxxxx#
Turn OFF and ON again.
xxxxxxxx = any numbers
Remember the xxxxxxxx you used.
You will need to use same code in the furure.

is it valid or do I need to buy the whole package (cable, software cd etc) for 25 € ?
