My friend has just purchased a Nokia 2600 Tracfone from Target Stores and would like to download an .mp3 ringtone I created to it. She will be using it in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis/St. Paul

I don't see the 2600 listed in any of the Nokia types in the FAQ.

I don't know which service Tracfone uses in this area.

A guy at Radio Shack suggested the 2600 uses CDMA or TDMA. A nice forum member at the CDMA/TDMA forum said it is GSM, so I am posting this query on this forum.

Once I get the requisite information about the phone and service, do you think there is any chance we will be able to download a custom ringtone to her phone?

Thanks.

Tracfone apparently uses a mix of GSM and CDMA software in their phone. I don't know if after a full flash the phone will be a common GSM, but certainly it won't work anymore with Tracfone network.

Now, to the question. The Nokia 2600 can't connect to a computer by any way (it is not compatible with any data cable and as far as I know, it doesn't have IR or bluetooth compatibility), so the only way to download a ringtone is through a WAP site.

If the phone is connecting to Internet normally, there are no restrictions imply in the firmware by Tracfone, and it can reproduce mp3 files, if you can upload the ringtone to a WAP site/server she would be able, in theory, if everything is fine, to download it correctly.
