Noob here, searched for a long time but couldn't find a solution for my problem.

This is a Cingular phone, and I want to use it with a T-Mobile SIM card. I inserted the T-Mobile card but the start-up screen shows a Cingular menu.

Here is what happened until now:
1. I removed the original (Cingular) SIM card as soon as I got the phone. Haven't activated the original card.
2. Powered on the phone without a SIM card, followed the procedure to generate an unlock code, entered it and got the "restrictions off" screen.
3. Powered off the phone, inserted T-Mobile SIM card, powered on and got the Cingular start-up screen.

I tested the T-Mobile SIM card in the original phone and it works fine.

How do I get the 6061 to recognize the T-Mobile SIM card?

Thanks. I know that silly noobie questions aren't very popular but I really have tried to find the answer before posting, and just got stuck.

Hi,

A lot of phones these days have they're service provider's nailed into them.
It's pretty common.

I'm pretty sure your phone will still accept the SIM card, and will let you use the SIM card.
The only difference is that you'll have Cingular Boot up and may have extra cingular menu options etc...

Not to sure...but you should be able to get rid of these cingular stuff with a good old flashing.

Then again, your firmware may be specialised to cingular. So best to ignore it and live on.

Thanks. I've been playing around with it for a while and the T-Mo SIM card seems to work. I think part of the problem is bad reception at this location. Some calls don't go through, and that was making me wonder whether the card was working at all.

What you said is reassuring because the interface does indeed look like it belongs to Cingular, or actually some kind of blend of Cingular and T-Mobile, if that makes any sense. It's just as you said - the menu still shows options to connect to various Cingular services, like buying Cingular ringtones, etc.

But basically I am able to make and receive calls with my T-Mobile number, and I can see the contacts in my address book, so I can use the phone and sort the rest out over time. I happy now  . Thanks again!

"Flashing hardware" is just a bit beyond my comfort zone as far as technical knowledge for now, but maybe it's time to learn something new :) .
