Nokia 5170i (Cricket)

I have 2 Nokia 5170i phones that I originally got with Cricket. When I was thinking about going to a regular carrier (for coverage out of my small region) I was told that the phones had been made "proprietary" by Cricket. With the way advancements have been made with cellular phones, I find it hard to believe that these phones cannot be "unlocked" or "cracked" today.
Would someone please tell me that I do have 2 phones that can be unlocked and used with "some" carrier besides Cricket. I was hopeing to send one of them to our troops overseas. It has an original drawing of The Supremes that has been permanently fixed to the cover. It will NOT wear out and I am sure that there would be at least one of our troops that would enjoy this phone.

I am also no good in this, but also I am in opinion that cdma type phones can't be used outside the network they were designed for.

Cdma is not gsm, most of the world uses gsm systems.

Like trying to prepare a diesel car to run on regular petrol, yes, it is possible although it doesn't benefit the costs and efforts to restructure the hardware.

So I'm sorry to have to inform U a single unlock only doesnot lead U to a working phone on gsm...
