Knowing which version (V1 or V2) to use

Almost all unlock programs require you to select an algorithm(V1 or V2) but I'm not sure which algorithm(e.g. V1, V2) to use.Does anybody know the first phone models to support V2 because then it'll be much easier to determine which algorithm to use for a given phone model.
