You probably can't make it into a GSM phone because of internal differences, but it would be helpful if you dumped your flash and eeprom for the purpose of study.

HELLO I INFORM HIM THAT THE CONVERSION is IMPOSSIBLE there is COMPLETE INCOMPATIBILITY WITH HARDWARE SOFTWARE OF EVERYTHING EVERYTHING it is THAT NEITHER THE CIRCUITS DE RF SERVES, GSM GENERALLY WORKS IN 1900MHZ IN EUROPE THE TELEPHONES TDMA LIKE 5120 NOT DUAL BAND WORKS IN 850MHZ GSM it is VERY DIFFERENT TO TDMA:rolleyes:   :o :o :p

Well they are different but they do work on similar frequencies (thats why usa gsm is 900/1900 and not 800/1800, there would be issues with tdma carriers) and on similar principles (timesharing). Although he would never get signal, i think that if he flashed his 5120 to a 5110 it just might actually boot up into the software becaue the phones are mostly similar except for the rf components. It would certainly be fun to mess with.
