don't cry too soon LOL!
wait for others to read your post.. maybe they experienced that before and let's see what they did to solve it. Good thing it worked fine again.

I'm not yet seeing that error (expecting LOL!)

seriously kiddo..... I've read somewhere that some users need to brng their phone to Nokia shop to reflash it..

BTW what version you have there? is your phone still under warranty?

First hello @ all here...

I like your nice little Pir..pssst ;)-Board...

Now i think its time too register,so i can help u out maybe in a few technical-questions.

The Contact Service-Problem:

In your case, the Batterie was to empty,so your 76 could not reboot anymore.
U was lucky, that u not put out the Batterie in this moment.
U do the right thing: only give first really enough energie into the Batterie, and NEVER put out it,if the phone say:Contact Service.

This will say only, that there is no possibility in moment, too reboot the phone.
Somethimes this pop-up comes up also,if peopel try to make a Hardreset with the code: *#7370#.
but the 76 only want to make another Hardreset for sim-card-reasons.
Most user then put out the Batterie (like they done with the old Nokias)
but like this they interrupt the reboot, and the 76 can not boot up anymore.
(Even some user put out the Batterie in the middle of the hardreset,so the phone crashed down.
The hardreset need some minutes time:between 3 and 7 minutes,
it depends, how much files it must erase)

So,all in all,NEVER INTERRUPT THE HARDRESET,if there is for other reasons the contact service,in most times its because the Batterie is too empty for a boot.
Only put it on a charger, then boot it up ;)

sorry 4 my bad english:but this is not my language.
so it will be a bad grammatik, but the infos will be more important.
