I have a locked V60, V66 and V70 phone and wish to remove the SP lock to use any SIM card... I am new to unlocking and have never performed it before, but you have to start somewhere!

I found a USB datacable for the V60 and V66 here (the third from the top)
http://www.techgsm.com/techgsm1_2.php?id=213&ln=en&desc=Motorola.html

However, that datacable doesn't say it supports the V70 - is there a difference in the port/communications? Because the next cable (4th) in the list sais it is serial comm, but that it supports the V70 as well. I suppose the cable I choose depends on the software I will use, but what are your suggestions?

Now, for unlocking software, I stumbled on an alleged unlocker for the V60/V66 jsut called "Motorola V60/V66 unlock soft", by Cellgate or something of the sort.
http://www.gsmdevice.com/gsmdownload/v66.zip

Is this a good unlocking software? Has anyone used this or is there an other unlocking software you use? Please tell me..
And what about V70 unlocking? Does that kind of software exist or not? Is it "free"?

I also stumbled on what appear to be "Flash files" for practically any phone out there, including the V70, here
http://www.gsm-technology.com/index/other,en,USD,unlock,subpage_id,flashes.html
Is this preferred to the other solution? If so, how do I use the flash files?

Any input is apreciated, any info is valuable. Thanks in advance

ok I read your post. for the v66 and so, it is recommended to use the clip for a 100 BPS, because the software unlocking makes the mot some errors so others say. I got the clip and it works. Better safe than sorry.

I'm willing to pay the extra 15$ just to make sure that the place is real... If you did recieve your cable from infiniterealities, then I trust it more than the other, which doesnt even have a webpage. Seems I'll have to go order the clip from there.. Much more expensive solution than I had imagined :/ Did you recieve your clip yet?

I've order and received from Mobile Bits, they are good...

Just isn't there a cheaper solution? I have a V60g I'd like to unlock too, but for that much money, I could buy a second v60g if I throw in another $100

What should I charge them in order to make it "fair"? Some guys charge 150 USD+ to unlock those motorolas, but that seems pretty high... What's "fair"?

as much they are willing to pay for, negotiate, u can always go lower, but not higher.

If you're in Canada, there's www.omegacell.com they'll unlock your phone and send it back to you for $42CAD which is 26Usd, and I don't know too many of my friends who really need to get their phnes unlocked, plus I think it's kinda bad to be charging your friends... that's if they're really ur friends.

I'm sure theres a safe and cheap way to do it... spending that much is just way too much for the normal person. It's only good if you're like a store or something.

Good point Killing Angel. Where exactly in Canada is that? I live in Montreal, people aren't exactly "technically gifted" here. It would take too many unlocks at 42 CAD, because the clip is 250 CAD... 50-100 CAD should be my target in this case 8/ mabe unlock for others through partnerships with people at retail points. Bleh, concept phase, all I really want is to be able to do it, the thrill of doing it.

They're in Calgary I think, I've dealt with them before, they are good. I think I will send in my phone there too if I can't get it unlocked with a data cable and some software...

I don't know, either there aren't any motorola people on this forum or people just don't really want to share.

people do share, there r a lot of previous posts how to unlock the v66 via cable and software, but according to the posts it can be problematic. I rather go with the clip and make some money by unlocking others too.

@superman What do others in your area charge for motorola unlocking and what do you charge? Just wanted to have some comparison when I go negociate with the salespeople... They'll eat me alive if I dont prepare first.. But I know they can be approached becasue I already did, very vaguely. They wanna know how much I charge, I wanna know how much they can provide heh.

I can't seem to find the posts... If I can get a cheap solution to unlock P2k, I will post a section on my website with detailed instructions for everyone... I think everyone who own's one has enough curiousity to try.

@Killing Angel You can use the chinese flash file to unlock the V66 I think using the USB cable or whatever, but it's been KNOWN to damage battery life and, well, sets the software version to the chinese one. Might loose some options or even damage phone :/ You can change menu back to english using the instructions, but that's all you get - chinese/english. Don't know where it is, but I'll search a little and try to find again

I found the software and patch

here http://nokiafree.org/forums/t4228/s.html but it only seems to work under Win98SE which I dont' have... I was hoping for something compatible with win98 regular or win2k/winxp

I have a few flash files for the V60g but I'm not sure which ones to use.

When u look at the canadian website posted earlier they charge 40 to 50 cd, I think if u alone in your area u can charge the same or more, and offer them fast service even on site (in your car), if u fast and reliable they r willing to pay more.
