Talking Needed more on 2280

Hi,
First of all, I want to thank all in the forum for bringing he 2280 to GSM conversion rumour to an end. i too am from India and had a similar query. but I waited and watched the threads and finally have understood the difference between GSM and CDMA. Thanks specially to Nanda and Tanh.

Myself being a newbie, wanted to know other codes and possibilities on my 2280 cdma mobile. I only know a few of them like *3001#123453# or*#639# . If anyone has more, please let me know.

Also does someone know how to unlock the SPC or Service Programming Code. most of the settings require it.

Sorry for overloadind, I also wanted to know about the feildtest in 2280. what it is and how it helps.

I'll be waiting...

Bye

Actually it is impossible to read or unlock SPC cod.
Field Test is a tool that helps the technician to know mainly if the phone's signal strenght is good or bad.
It has other information, but I think that only Nokia knows what they mean.

First of all what does *#639# supposed to do, all I get is a request for the service programming code.

Anyway here is some info I've put together for the Nokia 2280

*3001#12345# is NAM1, NAM2, change SPC, security (code), server addr (IP nums and ports), SW ver (1st page only), serial num, programmed (date), Field Test
*#837# or *#ver# is Version, ERL, PRI, Activated date

And yes I too would like to know some more codes.

Field test (Net Monitor) activation
-------------------------
To activate Net Monitor menu
type *3001#12345#
scroll to Field Test
enable (it says something about switching your phone off)
exit menus
turn off
switch on
menu
Net Monitor
Enter display/group code (eg 3101 for link info or 6101 battery info)
ok
scroll to page desired with up-down
hold down * to toggle between description and data

to get your normal screen back you can type in the display/group code 0000

Quite a lot of the entries in my net monitor pages have x's or ?'s, can someone tell me what that's about?
I know what a few of the field test things mean but if anyone knows a website that has a better listing for what the 2280's abreviations are I'd be appreciative.

page 31-01
-RXX Rx signal strength, probably in dBW but maybe in dBm
-TXX Tx signal strength
PPN is something about the tower's ID number I think
FER frame error rate

page 31-02
IDLHO could be about the Idle hand over. maybe signal strength or minimum time spent on 1 tower before it is handed over to another tower

page 31-08
BaseID just thought you'd like to know what page this was on

page 32-02
mux is often short for multiplex

page 61-01
Mon monitor battery charging program state
(cha=charging Rst=reset mon=maybe monitoring external power
sockets to see when power is inserted mai=mains supply)
Volt battery voltage in milliVolts
Temp battery temp in tenths of a degree Celcius ie 301 is 30.1degrees
ChMo Charge Mode (not=not, LiC=LiIon charging, Dco=disconnected)

page 61-08
PWM pulse width moulator (0-255) the position in the count to 255
where the power supply switches from on to off. it switches back
to on when it cycles from 255 back to 0

page 68-01
BER bit error rate

page 68-02
CRC cyclic redundancy check

*#639# (*#new#) is a shortcut to program a new number into the telephone.

If the phone were unlocked, after typing *#639# the phone would ask for a new MIN and a new provider's SOC. If the phone's ESN had been in the service provider's database, the phone would be activated.

That's it...

*#639# asks for the new MIN and the provider“s SID, not SOC.

Thanks for the excellent info.

The TX and RX strength is in dBm... I have verified this in my lab with my Nokia 6385 CDMA. I guess that most of you guys would know how dBm work, but for anyone that doesnt know, its all referenced to 1mW (one milliwatt)..
TX power...
10dBm=10 milliwatts
20dBm=100 milliwatts
30dbm=1 watt

RX level.

-100dBm is about 2 microvolts (basically full limiting on a normal 2way radio receiver)..
It seems that the CDMA will work ok down to -100dBm, and you might be lucky for it to work at -105dBm. The RX signal when you are close to the transmitter site (say, 200 metres away) would be around -25 to -30dBm.. (at least thats what I have found).

PPN is basically an "identification" number for the current site that you are on.

I will work my way through the other pages of info and post any further info that I find.

Cheers,

TLD

My 2280 losses signal down at an RX level below -110, it can still sms down at -110 but I never bothered to try voice when it was down that far.

And something I've been wondering what's the difference between the PPN and the BaseID number?
Is it that each tower has a PPN number that is unique to the Base with the BaseID that tower is linked to? Because I've noticed that the PPN numbers seem to be reused when you go to another city far enough away.

And I figured out what IDLHO is, it's the number of times that the phone has handed over to another tower (PPN) while the phone has been idle. On the same field test screen (31-02) DPCH seems to be a counter aswell, all the rest of the numbers on that screen on my phone are still 0.

I've been trying to figure out what f.t. screen 31-03 is talking about it's help text has
PN1 ECK
PN2 ECK
... ...

and the data has PN1 as the current PPN followed by a number with a k after it. All of the other entries are ?'s

I'd be interested in any more info anyone else has on the 2280 aswell.

PS. I forgot to say that while my phone is idle the TX power is always -72, but when you make a call it goes up significantly, I've seen it as high as -2.

You can reset SPC

For CDMA Nokias

*#837# lets you check your PRL and software version. Also *#639# will allow you to manually program your phone with the MIN and SID.

*#7780# Will restore factory settings

*#7370# - Full factory reset. Resets all settings including non-user changeable items (like SPC).

But be careful. I've used *#7370# and f**ked my 2280. Everything I can change but one item called SLOT INDEX has disappeared. It was of Reliance Infocom (India). If anyone knows how to get it back then please let me know. Also please tell me how can I build myself a serial data cable for my Nokia 2280 as a DKU-5 cost a fortune (~120.00 US$).

Please help.

With regards,
David

David, I have a question on how this works. So when it resets back to the Nokia default settings. Does that mean the default settings that Nokia loaded specifically for my provider? Or just a general Nokia setup?

I am looking to change my spc code and the code I have been given is not the right one. So if I did this would it change it back to the one provided by the provider or to a Nokia one? And if it is a Nokia one, is there a default Nokia SPC?

Thanks,
Mike

I have a 2280/Reliance/India.. I know its possible with a cable,, but is there any code to open a dialogue to change the Serial number of the phone?

That would be interesting..

Thanks

Exclamation Save Trouble (Nokia 2280 users)

Nokia 2280 programming codes

This is a small manual for people who would like to be adventurous with their Nokia 2280 CDMA phones. This could provide you some good masala to try out and save you a lot of trouble. I know it coz I am facing it right now. Even though I read the experience of the guy who posted that he f****d his phone by resetting factory code using the code *#7370# ( Do not use this under any circumstances). This command is like the rm ?r / command run by root on a unix terminal. Sure it will reset the Service programming code too to its default. But is it worth loosing all your phone numbers and messages of near and dear ones? Maybe No.

First let me give you some good codes so that you can play for a while.
You can access virtually all the menus using the code
*3001#12345# (Use this to access all the advanced menus on a nokia 2280. Few features for editing will not be available and you will need SPC for that which has been set by the service provider who is providing you the service. In my case it was Reliance Infocomm.)

*#837#(Use this to find the software version installed on your nokia 2280 mobile)
*#6767#(Used for setting mo-sms on/off. Do not know really what it is)
*#75681# (Restarts phone, Restarts slot cycle. I do not know what it really is)
*#7370# (This will reset all the factory settings including non user changeable things like SPC and bring them down to their defaults. This is deadly and you try it only when you know what you are doing. Just in case you want to do this before doing this just note down your ESN/MIN on a piece of paper. May be it can work. I do not know whether noting down ESN/MIN and putting MIN bak will work or not bcoz I am now unable to try that coz I do not know my MIN number to set it back to what it was earlier. But may be it can help. Just in case you want to try it out. This also sets the SPC to its default that is 000000. Just in case you are able to resume the network service it may be useful.)

Happy hacking,
Gain the knowledge by any means. Share it with people for mankind

nokia (and otehrs) SPC lock codes

hi all.. i used to work for the CDMA service provider in NZ...

the SPC code for ALL phones (well, that we had) is easy..

just type in the 1st 3 digits of the manufacturers name in digits (IE NOKIA = 665), then the last three digits of the model number of the phone.. (IE 585 for a 6585)

We used this for all the phones we had or have, Kyo, Samsung, Nokia, Hyundai... it was all the same.. try it out...

By the way.. does anyone know how to unlock a locked phone.. if the lock is on and the user has 4gotten the 5 digit security code...

Also.. does anyone have an infrared application I can d/l to use the IR port on my 6585 as a remote control...

Question 2280 MIN Unlock

That's it...
Most Nokia phones, as Motorola and many others have its MIN locked by Vivo in Brazil. I wonder if there's a way to unlock them, specially for 2280, Nanda. To all of you, if you now how to unlock MIN Locks, please report to this forum

By unlocking you mean using data cables or can we use a calculator? There are thousands around the net and I wonder: do they only work for GSM Phones, or CDMA are included? Some include 2280 (A Nokia CDMA model, as far as I know), but we get as far as knowing the Country Code (for Brazil 724) but for the provider, we don't have a clue. As the calculators need the Country Code and the Provider to which it's locked, I assume Vivo doesn't tell everybody which it is, or worse, these calculators don't work with CDMA models; thus making it far impossible remote unlocking . I also assume Vivo has a Code for each area it operates ( ), making it worse to unlock. Last time I heard something, they had changed and phones sold in Sao Paulo could be used within the state, phones sold in Rio could be used within Rio and Espirito Santo, and so on and so forth (what realy mattered is they blocked the FIRST number of the MIN, so it's locked to one area only, in SP from 11 to 19, in Rio and ES from 21 to 29 etc.)

This model is largely sold within Brazil, in auction sites, by a range of 30 to 50 dollars, so they're inexpensive (if Vivo didn't put this damn lock we'd all be happy, hanging around with these phones and activating in whichever state we are).

Regards,

Tude.

I just bought a Nokia 2280 with Tata service. I wanted this for our fieldboys when they go out on errands. In the User's Guide, there is a description on how I can activate outgoing call restrictions and allow certain numbers to call while this activation is on. When I foolow the instructions, the menu options do not appear on the phone. Do you have any idea how to do this? Tata Indicom people are completely clueless. See page 67 of User Guide (Menu option 4-5-2-2) etc.

Thanks
SM

ESN Change for 2280

Hi all

As 2280 is Nokia DCT4 generation phone except the RF part is different as the GSM phones other things almost 100% no differce , so if you want to change the ESN will need to change the UEM (I hear the someone even can change the IMEI and ESN without change UEM) then make "'ask"' to Nokia and get the ''RPL'' then program it back to phone. above is the normal procedure for applying new ESN for 2280!

Goodluck
