Is terminator OS fussy?

I have a terminator dongle and am using v1.8 as it is supposed to be more stable than v2.0. However running on Windows ME has caused all 4 locks down when reading codes on 2 phones, a T39 and a T68i.

Is there a way to tell which versions v1.8 will work with or is it pot luck?

Does v1.8 work properly on ME or does it require 98 or 95?

I have also used the dongle with a R600 on windows 95, the soft read all the codes (did not lock down the phone) but they came out in the following format

NCK **** **** **** ****

so four lots of 4 digits rather than one 8 digit code? Could this be the dongle or the OS?
