Insert sim
Hey all,
I just got another water damaged 3310 (15 actually) which I bought becuase even if it was totally dead, I could still salvage the screen etc. Anyways, I cleaned the PCB with a number of things, and the phone turns on, but it says "Insert sim card" even if a sim card is in there. I tried reflashing it, but to no avail.
Anyone know what's wrong?

Check that the contacts of the sim block are clean this is the most common cause for this!
Clean them with alcahol wipes as this will remove most of the dirt!

Hi there....
Hmm...firstly try to check the contact....do some clean up wit spirit or thinner. If u r sure tat's not the contact problem, try to reflow the CCONT ic....i've few set of 3310's b4 wit the same problem and solved it by reflow it. :)
Good luck~
Thanks...

Could I use a paint stripping gun to reflow the ccont?
-
Err....i'm not sure bout this but it would kill ur phone if it over heated...
Thanks~
-
Yeah. Is there any way I can reflow it using just a soldering iron?
-
No no no....u can't reflow the CCONT by soldering iron.Reflow means tat u need to heat the CCONT by hot air.... :)
Thanks`

lolz @ paint stripping gun
thats as bad as someone using wd40 to clean PCBs..

Try using one of those hairdryers with the plastic attachment that acts like a cone to produce a thin column of air!
This worked when I re-flowed the power IC in my 3310!
-
Hehe. Will the hairdryer be hot enough??
-
typical reflow temp is 200degC
maybe you should try modify your hairdryer a little?
:)

This is going to sounds kind of stupid, but hey, i can't help it!
You were warned...
Could I use the oven to reflow an entire pcb? Just heat it up to 200 degrees C and put the pcb in for a few minutes...
WOuld it work, or would it kill some of the IC's?

Just another quick question: where is the CCONT?
