Thread: DCT4 Flash editing :)

Thumbs up DCT4 Flash editing :)

Ok now with a DCT3 flash as we all know we can open in hex and see easy resemblances to text and stuff, and do lame thingies such as change text (as a basic mod)

Ok now i opened up a DCT4 flash and its like got NO text in it - im scared

Is it all encryptied? Any way to edit text in it or decipher it??

If there is then i'll have the checksums to worry about yay

i opened up a 8310 flash in winarm and had a bit of a read through the asm code. i could see certain workings but i got a bit lost with out jotting down notes as i went through it. but your right there is no bitmaps or anything else visually recognisable. I guess it just means that they are usuing a more efficient method of coding the pictures in. Not forgetting that there is probably a shitload of encryption.

    Exclamation DCT4 flashes sucks

All DCT4 flashes (mcu+ppm) seems to be encrypted or compressed. (except 7210ppm)
Also seems to bee doing its decrypting by hardware.

    Correct me if im wrong!!!

Anybody knows anything about DCT4 encryption???

So it seems that Nokia thought
-Hmm DCT3, too many people making too much money out of modding, unlocking, screwing with etc
-We'll make DCT4! and encrypt everything, mwah ha ha haaa
-But won't the modders read thru the code and get the decryption method, and use our code each time they wanna decrypt?
-Oh yes, we'll spend millions on implementing hardware to do it mwaa ha ha hhaa (again)

    h_r_f thinks:
bugga, even the software probably doesn't know about the encryption.

Does anybody have hardware tracing utilities and logic analysers to see what happens when say, the phone saves a text message to memory or reads an image.
But I expect the decryption is on the same chip that the arm processor is on...

Does anyone know whos currently cracking the encryption?
^ Stupid question ^ Nokia will kill them
