I have an 8310, it works okay, dials out/in etc. But when I try to search for a number it says sim card not ready? It does show the vodaphone network so it is seeing the sim.
Any ideas?

If the problem only occurs within a minute or so of turning it on, then you are not allowing the phone time to start up properly.
If the error message is still being displayed several minutes after switching on, and the same happens with a different sim card, then the most likely solution is to get the phones firmware re-flashed.
