i got operator unlocking codes for my nokia 3510i
but where do i typ it?
should the sim card be inserted when i type the code or how should i do it?

use the # key and the * key on your phone keypad to enter the exact code. Hope it helps. Do not remove the sim. Just turn on your phone as normal and enter the code.
