    NiMh Battery in a 3410.

    Hi all,
A friend of mine has a 3410 that is still under warranty. Recently, the phone stopped powering on. She had been using a spare NiMh battery with it and when I took it back to the shop they said that using this battery may have caused a software fault. (It should have been a Li-Ion)

This sounds a bit suspicious to me so I said I'd drop you all a line and see what your opinion is.

Can the NiMh battery cause such a fault? If so, how?

Also, what are the major differences between the two types of battery?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards,
    Andrew Dennehy

The main difference is the voltage graphs. I can't remember exactly how it goes, but one produces a straight line graph, which means the voltage is going down at a constant rate. For example, for every hour of use, the voltage drops by 0.2v. The other produces a graph which is pretty much flat for 90%, then drops off suddenly.

Other differences include the LI-ION battery being lighter, and not having such a memory effect. There are other differences, im sure, but I can't remember.

The main thing which would damage the phone, would be if the voltage given out was too high. This could cause a fuse to blow which would stop the phone powering on. If i were you, i would switch the batts, and get someone else to take the phone in. That would get it fixed. Hope that helps a bit.
