nokia 6230: caller groups and silent problem

    Hi
I have been trying to get my phone to Just vibrate when someone calls. Can anyone shed some light on this. I am using mp3s as ringtones, and have a couple of profiles set, but the silent profile only makes it ring more quiet, not completely silent. the only way for it to be silent is w/o vibration. I am trying to set it up so it doesn't ring for all profiles, but gives me a vibration alert. In the profile settings there is no way to turn the ringing volume to 0, nor is there any option to just vibrate.

    Someone help!

Can you record audio on the 6230? If you can, go to a quiet room and record about 5 seconds of *nothing*. Rename it to "Blank". Set "Blank" as your message ringtine tone, and you will have 5 seconds of vibrating.

Make the recording longer or shorter if neccessary

If you can't record, then you have to find a blank polyphonic ringtone ...

You could just record one second of 'nothing'. I think that the ringtones loop themselves.

For a ringtone? Its better for 4 or 5 seconds of *nothing*

Especially for a message tone, cause it doesn't loop. Only plays once (and vibrates alongside)

This intrigued me, so I tried it on my 6230. The default feature for silent has incoming call alert set to "off" and the ringing tone as Nokia tune, with vibration on. When I rang the phone it just vibrated with no sound. So then I set an mp3 as the ringtone, keeping incoming call alert off and vibe on and it actually rang even though it was on silent. weird little glitch that one.

Enlighten me though, as I think I may have missed the point. Why do you need to have mp3's set as ringtones if you dont intend to hear them when the phone rings? Try using the default settings like Nokia tone and it should work

I have diff. caller groups that have mp3's set as ringtones. When i am in "general" mode, i would like to hear them of course. However, if i am somewhere where silence is needed but i still want to know if someone calls, i would like the silent profile to work such that it disables all sounds from emanating from my phone. the problem is that the caller group ring overrides the silent setting, and i still hear them.
