Newbie 100% - 2280 sw update?

Hello

I am a total newbie with nokia software, but I would like to know how can you (if possible) update a 2280's software. I have the CA-42 data cable.

What I need to do is fix the software. When you write a SMS and press one time any number, it appears twice! so its a nightmare to write a msg either using the t9 or regular writing.

Any Ideas from the experts?

Can't be done without special hardware, an usb/serial cable is not enough.
