Nokia 6110 - Says "Please Insert Sim Card" - Does it need unlocking?

I have been given a Nokia 6110 to try and "fix". When you turn it on it says "please insert sim card". I have tried an Orange and Virgin sim card but the same message still appears. Does this mean it need unlocking from a network it was on before? And if so... I don't know what network it was on before, so how can i unlock it? Can you try all codes without the phone freezing? I cant use a datacabe because I dont have one.

change the card reader of the phone if u have the possiblity

if the sim card reader contacts are dirty then make sure they are cleaned (use IPA fluid for this)

otherwise you do have faulty hardware or dry solder joints etc
