    An easy question for everybody

    Hello Everybody,

Have a question. Would like to know why anyone would reprogram or unlock a phone?

If you go to a dealer, you can pay just a little bit more (i.e. you pay US$20-30 additional money) and you can get a "factory authorized" *unlocked* phone easily!

    Am I missing something here?
    Please explain, I'm new here.

    1. Official unlocking by serviceprovider costs way more over here... think about $100,- and up (depending on how long you are with the provider)
    2. For software upgrade you have to travel to a city that has an official Nokia (or other brand) servicecentre and they sometimes charge if the phone is not under warranty anymore or have to send the phone away for a while. Doing it yourself is a matter of minutes.
    3. You can change the software of the phone to contain personalised pictures, sounds and menustructures, wich is great fun to have and to make.
    4. It's a big thrill finding the correct hardware schematics, building it yourself and changing the soft yourself.

But those last 2 points are personal ofcoarse...
