Flasher Shell for linux (!?)

Hi!

I'm trying to develop a program to flash nokia phones on Linux (Open Source - GPL).

However, I cant't find any info about how the process of flashing a phone works (what is sent by the parallel port and in what form).

Can anyone help me?

P.S.: I heard we could see what's hapening during the flash process, but I haven't any clue of how is that observation done.
