How does one Unlock a Nokia 6170 (Orange)

    Hi,
I bought a Nokia 6170 on ornage today and was wondering if anybody knew how to unlock it.
I unlocked one a few months ago using "Nijanas" advice of using:
    for 6170... use
    DCT4
    ASIC 6
    Box 32821..

and it worked..but I have been reading that people have had problems unlocking it recently, has anybody sucsessfully unlocked a brand new nokia 6170 recently, if so how have they managed it..any code suggestions would be welcome? Have they changed the software on new nokia 6170s?

    regards Yasman

Angry Nokia 6170! Anyone Unlocked it yet?

I bought a Nokia 6170 under the imprestion today that it would be a simple unlock job like my Nokia 7650 and 3100 but its turn out to be a right pain!Like the 6610i I had.If anyone has sussed it out please tell me what software you are using and how to do it! And what box do you enter the code in to is it when there is no sim in or when there is the wrong network sim in and you get the unristrict code box up?

    HELP

P.s Did you other guys buy the phone from the link :-?

Some good news, some not so good...

I managed it at the third attempt. I'm just wondering if some are having the same problems as I did.

First of all if you are using the Nokia free calc you may have noticed that the 6170 is listed TWICE!

The first one simply comes up with boxes for IMEI, country, network, then MCC+MNC, GID1, GID2, and MSIN. None of these last four mean a thing to me! You only get two short codes, neither of which work.

So go to the second "6170" on the drop-down list. Ater the IMEI, country and network boxes are the usual Asic and Version boxes. For Orange UK phones select "Asic 6" and "Original" from the drop-down lists. I always use code 7, don't see the point of "use code 1 etc. and if that doesn't work use code.....", I just use code 7 for every Nokia phone, usually works first time!

    As ever, this worked.

    Now the bad news....
My Orange sim card didn't work. I tried 2 actually, a contract one and a PAYG but neither of them worked - no signal! I phoned Orange who told me that it would not work with "older" sim cards as its a new model, although my Orange contract sim is quite new and the PAYG one is a newly registered card! Not sure what's going on there then!

Trying other network PAYG cards, will post results.

How quaint! A Virgin sim (older type, too) worked OK as did a Vodafone sim but not the Orange ones! Can't understand why you can't just pop a 2G sim into an unlocked phone! Any ideas, folks?

I need to know as I'm selling these on as "unlocked"!

Why does the Nokia Free Calc default to Asic 2 for the 6170 if it's Asic 6?

just a note, to make things clear so nobody confuses:

ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) is a dedicated IC (integrated circuit) that defines a part of the DCT4 algorithm.

UEM is the IC where the IMEI is located.

I'm having the same problems, I brought my phone on Monday 20/6/05 and have tried all the codes and none seem to work. Might have to take to a shop and pay the £10 to get it unlocked

    6170 cable solution?

just a quick one..seem to be spendin my life unlocking these days...managed to get an o2 x3 done, shouldnt have bothered, softwares crap on it...anyway, 5th fone this year 6170, on orange, took it to unlocking place an they entered 5 wrong codes..v peed off...i presume now its a cable job (phone isnt barred i can use it fine on orange) phoned up decent unlocking place where i normally go, explained it to them they reckon if they cant cable it it needs flashing? it should be able to be cable unlocked surely? too much probs with flashing, did it before on a t630, dunno if id trust unlocking place to do it themselves on a brand new fone. if they reckon it needs flashing are they just tryin it on? any help appreciated, cheers
