Nokia 6230 crashes

hello everyone
i have a nokia 6230 which was given to me by a cousin of mine. i have no idea what she use to do with it before, but every time i try to access an application in the "applications" menu, the phone resets. ringtone goes to default "nokia tune". gprs settings remain though. The result is like a factory reset. can any one help me out please!!!!
