3330 Upgrading

Can I upgrade my 3330 to a 3350 or 3390 just by flashing the firmware? If yes, which files do I need to use? What are the
MCUs and the PPMs? I'm a total newbie...

MCU (Mobile Control Unit) is the phones software (operation system, menus etc).

PPM is the language pack. every model has language packs, with a letter. for example, pack I contains English, Hebrew, Arabic and Russian.

when flashing a phone you have to flash a mcu with the version you want, and a ppm pack with the languages you want.

3390 = 3310, the difference is that 3390 works on 1900MHz band, and 3310 works on 900/1800MHz band. your phone will NOT work if you flash a 3390 software to it.

you can upgrade your 3330 to 3350, but you need a new pcb with extra contacts, as the 3350 has more buttons than 3330 on the keypad. if you have the hardware parts, simply download a 3350 mcu (from this site's download section), and a ppm pack of your choice (also in the download section). and flash them to your phone using a dejan flasher cable (or any other dct3 flasher) and a program like Rolis Flasher (in the download section).

instead of using seperate mcu and ppm files, you can flash a full flash (or a full backup) from a working 3350.

if you don't mind losing the Wap options of the 3330, you may flash the 3310 ProjectZ to your phone. the projectz flash has timed profiles, automatic keypad lock, picture editor and more.
for that conversion you will not need to change any hardware parts.

Your 3330 will most likely have the extra contacts unless it's really old! Open your phone and see! If it does, you will need to purchase a 3350\3410 LCD and a 3350\3410 Cover and buttons! Flash the 3350 file, change the screen and put on new cover! I highly recommend this conversion!!!

do i have to open the phone to see if i have contacts? or i will just have more buttons?

i have a 3330, and i don't think that i have more contacts on the pcb than the buttons (navi button, two arrows and a "c" button), but it can't be that old because i bought it with the newest software version.

Yes you must open the phone! It will have many more gold buttons if it is the new PCB. I've attached a pic of a 3330 with the extra buttons below!
