Please Help!! 6230 Unlocked/no Signal!

Hi to all who've bothered to read this.
Bought a 6230 from a friend, locked to Orange......need to unlock to use T-mobile.
I've unlocked a few (older) phones in the past using an unlock CD i got on Ebay.....its great you can download it free here!!
Anyway after a few attempts my old program didn't do the job....so off to a local phone shop to have it done via cable.
"Ten quid, be a couple of minutes mate" great i thought.......seemed to be struggling & 20 minutes later it was done.
I put my T-Mobile sim init & it came up with all my numbers & full strength on the signal bars.....BUT THERE IS NO SIGNAL! (I can't make or receive calls.)
I should have checked in the shop, but i was in a real rush & having unlocked phones before, it seemed fine to me, as they usually unlock or they don't.
The problem i've got now is getting back to the shop, as i'm a delivery driver it might be a while till i get over there again.
I'm hoping this is something simple, 1 of you phone boffins can help me with??????
Oh the phone works fine on Orange & my sim works fine in my old phone.
Any ideas!!??
