    Flasher cable -homemade- question

    Hello
Eventually i will be able to build a flasher cable soon. I found several schematics which are all based on the 74HC14 chip, and a few other components.
Now, i did a torough search here but the results confused me instead of helping, because there are different answers to my questions.
I want to make the flasher in a way that i can use my existing data cable, which of course has to be plugged into a serial connection on the "flasher box" i'm going to build.
My data cable is of the type "M/F-bus with manual switch".
Can this sort of cable be used, or does it need to be a pure M-Bus cable???
Also, second question. I found, as mentioned above, SEVERAL schematics based on that chip. The resistor, which is parallel to the 100nf capacitor, does it have to be 4k7 or 10k???
Also, last question..... on my computer's LPT port is a scanner installed. The scanner is normally "off" and it (the scanner itself) has another LPT port to evtl connect a printer to it. A connected printer works fine when the scanner is off. Now, my new printer is USB so that "Scanner LPT port" is free.
Can i connect the flasher cable to that port, or does it need to be direct on the PC???
(Kind of fumbling under the hood as my computer is sort of "integrated in the furniture").
I am very thankfull for any advice........
    Kind regards...

How to you mean, connect your MBUS cable at your flasher?

    4k7

Connect your flasher cable to your computer, direct.

    Hi,

I bought a Flasher cable about a Year ago. But you will get a very good feeling if you build one on your own.

So..I made one 2 months ago. This is working 200%

    Here is the diagram

    Phone Connector

In creating my own cable (F/M-Bus or Flasher), I always stuck in obtaining the correct connector to the phone. I once read in the forum that you can use paperclip, but I think it's too risky, especially for flashing your phone.

One of my friend buy a handsfree and use the connector. Is there any other option for the connector?

    data cable connection

    Hi BOEBOE!
I was planning (provided i get the darn IC somewhere...) to build that thing into a box (cassette housing) which has two cables coming out at the back, one goin to the PC's LPT port, the other one to the COM-1 port.
On the front it will have two COM-type connectors to which i want to connect the data cable, one is a straight-thru to the cable that connects with COM-1 (for data cable use), the other one will be connected to the "flasher" i'm going to build. The reason is, so i can use ONE cable for both purposes (data AND flashing) and only need to plug it in either the "flash" or "data" port on the front of my box.
As data cables usually come with COM-type connection, i could use that box also with cables for other DCT-3 mobiles (i got one for 8210/8250 and another for 3310/3315 phones, all manual switching M/F-bus).
I need to know if this sort of cable now CAN be used for that purpose......
And.. i still need that 74 HC 14 ... i really can't get it here in thailand! Please help me.........
Thanks for both advice and evtl. help
    Kind regards...

So, you are going to connect your datacable after your flasher?
Why don't you integrate your datacable inside that BOX? So you can just connect the leads on the flasher output or data output...

Go to the ProjecT 1.50 thread where ldicdican explained how to combine, so you have mbus and flash with ONE ic.

that cant work, the ic inside flasher inverts data once, then the ic inside datacable will invert it again (one time too much).

    Cool YESS~~!!

    Hello there!
Who says "no, can't be done"???
I have a friend who is computer technician. He went with me to the TV repair shop, and we dammit GOT THE 74 HC 14!!! Together with the other parts, diodes, resistor, capacitor, it was 36 Baht (85 us cents)!!!
Back home i went to "work" and after 2 1/2 hours i did the first test run.
Rolis doesn't work with that thing, but Knok95 does (win XP here). Flashed the phone. Success! But.... "Contact service".
Hmm read the tutorial here... aha, corrupt data. I run the flash file thru G3nolite, patched invert LCD and fixed checksums, saved and flashed phone again with Knok95. This time NO "contact Service"!
Fired up Nokia Tool 1.9, read phone info, update FAID, reset SW.... and my 5130 is as good as new!!
Morale of this story: Don't say "no" before you tried it....... Data cable actually "behind a flasher" works just EXCELLENT in my case
And if i would not have screwed the small switch in the data cable, i could still use f-bus as well.... but i broke the switch, now it's m-bus only but that's ok. IT WORKS!!!
And best of all... it was cheaper than get the phone flashed in the shop.... MUCH cheaper
In attached zip file are two photos of that finished box.......
    Kind regards.....

    Congratualtions!!!
    Enjoy flashing!

Check also my new flash, it won't work on 5130; but you can try it, to see the functions.
