Unable to format new SanDisk 128MB MMC in SL45

I have upgraded by SL45 mobile from V23 to V56. This was done by first upgrading from v23 to v43 and then to v56. The original 32mb SanDisk MultiMedia card was and still is working fine with the system at present.

I purchased a 128mb SanDisk MMC and inserted this in the phone. On starting up, the Aeroplane screen is getting hang up and mobile is not getting started. Is this thing normal and expected whn a new MMC inserted?

If I try to format the new 128mb MMC with dataexchange software v2.62, The data exchange software while in 'format' mode doesnot show no. of MBs in the card (which it does for the original card)

Inspite of that, if I press OK button, the message received is
`service not supported, possible causes:
1. There is no mobile telephone connected to the COM port selected
2. This software only works with a SIEMENS mobile telephone with MultiMediaCard `

Can anybody has experienced these problems when inserting new MMC or these things are normal..

I am not able to figure out whether the multimedia card is faulty or the problem is with my procedure of installation. Based on this idea< i need to decide whether MMC reader/writer is required or not.
Can anyone help me out with his /her experience?

I had a similar problem where i couldn't format my mmc.
I bought a usb mmc reader for about £10 and i formatted my mmc with that. The usb reader is also good for transferring mp3's and other files onto your siemens because the transfer rate is superb.Much Much faster than datacable and siemens data exhange software.
