Thread: For those who have a 128MB MMC.

For those who have a 128MB MMC.

    Hi!
I would like to know what brands show a capacity of 122MB and what brands show 125MB.
What does, for example, Kingston and Sandisk show?

    PQI is 122mb

But if you think about it, you get 30mb on a 32mb card.

    So 4 x 32 = 128

    And 4 x 30 = 120. So 122 is pushing it i think :S

    Sandisk - 122 Mb

Some card manufacturers talk about 1Mb = 1024^2 bytes and some others about 1Mb = 1000^2 bytes (like usually for hard disks). This is the source of the difference.

    Crap. I bought a 512MB RS-MMC off Expansys (hasn't arrived yet).

    So ...
    So 16 x 32 = 512

    And 16 x 30 = 480!!!

    32MB WASTED!

    nk_au: 16 x 32 = 512 not 128

You know what I mean. I only did a simple Copy and paste job, edit data.

Obviously, I didn't edit all data

I used this to figure out the capacity of my MMC:

    128/1.024 = 125.

Which is the "actual" capacity of my MMC. This doesn't work for all MMCs of course.

As some memory gets used for directory listings... etc. And also the MMCs store its files in 'blocks' rather than 'bytes'. (Although it obviously still uses 'bytes'.)

Though the 1000 bytes as opposed to the 1024 bytes is also true; hence the larger the device the larger the loss.

The reason a want to know is that when you want to record a video with Philips Camcorder or Hipcam only those 128-cards that show a capacity of 122MB will record the sound as well. The 125MB cards won't record the audio.

Does anyone know what it's like with the 256MB cards?
    Must they show
    256000000/1024/1024=244MB
for the sound to be recorded in the video?

My phone shows 245 MB for my memory card and I can record sound with Camcoder. I really don't think that there's any coherence between the memory size and the ability to record sound though...
